Would it be more appropriate for the award center to contact the CO of a particular army to let them know about the award? Then the CO can announce the award rather than Dierk who is the CO of the British Army?

Scott--all awards have always been announced through the Award Centre. That it is run by two British officers has never been a problem for anyone before, just like no-one has ever had a problem with the club president and the commanding officer of the training department being British officers, or the keeper of the club archives being a French one. The club is run as a joint effort by officers who, in these roles, are completely impartial in their work. We are capable of that. Let's not construct any antagonisms that aren't there. [:)]

No antagonisms intended. It's more of a management thing. For example, In my real job, I enjoy gathering the employees to announce a job well done to a specific person. It's good for the employee and it's good for the manager. This make believe situation is not all that different. It would be good for the troops of one organization seeing their CO recognize publicly the achievements of one of their own. If I were a CO of one of the groups, it would be how I would want it handled.

I see. Well, for one thing, it <u>is</u> a recognition on part of the CO, as naturally this DSM comes neither from King Louis nor me but from Brett. For another, this is but the "official" announcement. What I'd do as CO is additionally honour the officer in question on the own army board with some personal words. I often do that myself in the British Armies in case of an important promotion or other honour. You're right, it's good for the group spirit. But this should not replace the official announcement.

I do enjoy the announcements, and as the official intepreter for <b><font color="orange">Mohawks</font id="orange"></b> and <font color="orange">One Feather</font id="orange">, I wish that they would have a few more announcements like this, really cool. But everyone knows how hard it is to get a few <font color="red"><b>Injuns</b></font id="red"> together to agree on anything, and pray tell what happens when a little <font color="red"><b>Firewater</b></font id="red"> gets passed around...

Scott,

It was I who nominated Phil in the first place. I brought the nomination before the Cabinet, and they approved. As soon as this happens, Dierk, as head of the Awards Center, hands out the award. The CCC is run a little bit differently (but I think more efficiently), than some of the sister clubs. I notified Phil of his award before it was publicly posted on this board as well.

Just an observation, no intent to stick my nose into someone else's business. I'm having enough trouble with Natta at Bladensburg, Sands at Stoney Creek, Coffey at Valley Forge, Hargreaves at Crysler's Farm...etc etc

Cheers to you Marquis de Roubaud. Your very own young Buonaparte said "it is with baubles that men are led". Which I don't think was meant to sound callous but was just a comment on human motivation. And a bauble to me is like the proverbial carrot on a stick. [:D]
