So I get these emails: "Hi Rich, I just viewed the replay and was surprised to find that we've been transported to Vermont and are in the midst of the rearguard action at Hubbardton! I went there this past Summer, but that's another story. Phil" "Yeah, I thought maybe I had taken some hallucinogenic drug or something... Maybe you sent the wrong file Rich??? we could play out this one but how would we file the end game report???" Now I am playing a Bunker Hill against both these guys (multiplayer PBEM) and I thought that was most wierd. So I resent the file only to get the same answer. So I REPLAYED my turn, only to get the same exact result when I resent it! Then I get this email: "I got the wrong file in the last attachment. It was a Hubbarton file zipped into the !!aup-13.zip file. Larry" I just about hit the roof. Mike Davies and I are trying to troubleshoot as best we can. This is rediculous! |

So this is in a nutshell what is happening: Everytime I save a PBEM file, my computer is saving it as the PBEM Hubbardton battle that I have going on with Tim Maines. This doesn't make any sense because Tim and I are doing a campaign. This also doesn't make any sense because, damn all, it doesn't make any sense. I'm doing a reinstall of 1776. Keep you posted. |

Are you using Winzip? I have noted that my opponents have had this happen to them as well. I always: 1. Right click on the .bte file and pick Add to Zip where the zip name will be the same as the file name only with a .zip extension. 2. Sometimes I will use the Recent Zip files option as it puts in the path where I have my zip files for sending. In either case it usually works fine. If you figure this out would you please document how it happens and the fix for us? It would be good info for all of our online clubs. |

Make sure you delete the old directory on your hard drive before reinstalling...as the uninstall will only remove the files that were placed there by the original install routine. Everything else will be left. |

Forcasted "nexts" are Spring Training battles at Gettysburg against the New York Yankees with a minor foray to Mars to defend from encroaching cockroaches. |

The problem would seem to be in the way you are using your ZIP program and, maybe, the options you select. AFAIK, you should be able to RIGHT click on the file you want to ZIP and it ZIPS it, with THAT same file name or with another that you want to use. If you are using the program correctly and sending the newly ZIPPED file, there is NO WAY to get them crossed up. To try to track this, what ZIP program (WINZIP or the XP ZIP) and what operating system are you using. I think it is the execution of the process that the problem happens, not the 1776 program OR your ZIP program. Try deleting all ZIP files in your 1776 directory, that are not needed. Check the dates of your newly ZIPPED files. Check the CONTENTS of newly zipped files. AND MOST IMPORTANT make sure your options are set to "NO PATH STORED" NOT to STORE FULL PATHS or STORE RELATIVE PATHS. When you use one of the last two options, the PATH ON YOUR COMPUTER gets stored and your opponent (or partner) UNZIPS the file into a different folder than you intend. |

I uninstalled the game and deleted the folder. Reinstalled and she works like a charm. |
