INTREPID HEROES, Here it is the twelfth of December, and we have no recruits yet this month. We normally average 6 per month, so it is a little unusual. If you have any friends you think might be interested, why not suggest they try us out. Try to sell them on the normal enticements, one new suit of clothes per year, one lb. of bread, one pound of salt beef, 3/7 pint of peas ration per day. Occasional rum for extra duty. See exotic places such as the fever islands. Or if they prefer more a primative style living, the Indians could use more members. They do not get paid, but are allowed any spoils they capture, AND they get to fight everybody... no manuever games. Anyway, whatever help recruiting you can provide will be appreciated. |

Dierk, It's all in how you look at it. If possession is 9/10ths of the law, they own us. One British regiment went there with 400 men, came back with 125, and left over 600 in their graves during the course of the war. Another regiment mutinied rather than go over there once they realized where they were heading. Not sure what they did with them, probably pressed them into the Navy [:D] The death rate for all Europeans in the Tropics was very high. |

Yeah reminds me of the British officer who was sent out to be governor of the Gold Coast in the mid-19th century. When settling his affairs with the Colonial Office he inquired if they would pay for his return journey after completion of his term. He was quite astonished when the clerk informed him that the need had never before arisen. [:D] |
