Post subject: | Light infantry, militia and X line |
With the current game engine, there seems to be no distinction between light infantry and militia except for troop quality. Perhaps there could be a morale penalty for militia (but not light infantry) when they enter X line - surely being further from their officers, and without other men on either side(as they would have if deployed in regular line) they'd be more likely to turn and run. This would provide a better distinction between properly-trained light infantry and undisciplined militia and would provide some incentive for forming up in regular line instead. For play-balance purposes, it would certainly be beneficial if there were some downside to the formation. Another possible downside to the X line (for both militia & light infantry) might be to allow regular (not militia) cavalry the ability to "over-run" troops in this formation if caught in the open - perhaps only if outnumbered at least 2:1.
