Post subject:  Adjust Auto Defense Fire - Pre Scenario Settings

It would be nice to be able to pre-set your ADF ranges for your units before a scenario began for those instances (rare perhaps) where you dont want your artillery opening up at long range (if you have a shortage of ammo for instance).

I came up with one way of doing this.

Plan A - you burn a turn - the First player starts the game but doenst do any move. He sets his ADF ranges and then sends the file to the Second player who sets his and then sends them back to the First player.

Plan B - manually change the .bte text file. The First Player starts up the game, saves the file and then edits the .bte file with the proper entries for line 12. Or optionally a third party could do this FOR the players to keep it secret.

Line 12 looks like this by default:

2 2 2 2

The numbers in sequence are:
1. First Player - Infantry Min/Max range
2. First Player - Artillery Min/Med/Max range
3. Second Player - Infantry Min/Max range
4. Second Player - Artillery Min/Med/Max range

The values to enter for the infantry ranges are:
Min - 0
Max - 2

The values to enter for the artillery ranges are:
Min - 0
Med - 1
Max - 2

Thus if the First Player wanted to set his Infantry to fire at Minimum range but his artillery at Max range, and the Second player wanted to keep the defaults the line would look like this:

0 2 2 2

Staying with the above but having the Second player use Medium range with his artillery instead of long range, line 12 would look like:

0 2 2 1

Finally, a value of:

2 1 0 2

means that the First player is using long range for his infantry fire (default) but medium range for his artillery. The Second player is using minimum range for his artillery and long range for his artillery (default).

Again, this is assuming honest players. As we all know the campaign files (.cpf) are not encrypted. Note: you cant edit the campaign files in the same manner as the info is duplicated in several places throughout the file. Thus this is just for stand-alone battles for the most part and again it is only for those rare occurences...
