You do not need any permission to play these mods against other club members. Since they use Eckmuhl engine you can register these games as well.

Actually gentlemen it's Rich Hamilton speaking for HPS saying its 'pirating'not the BLITZ itself. They do NOT use the Eckmuhl engine from HPS but a 're-engineered' executeable NOT authorized by HPS. I would NOT recommend adopting these MODS with this club. JMHO [:D]

The Cabinet hasn't ruled on this issue.

I'll bring it before them.

That said, my position will be this.

That the NWC will not support any game or mod which requires illegal modifications to the games.

The old cobexlaw stuff is fine, as those mods are based on an old (but legal) version of the Eckmuhl engine.

It seems possible. But there is a question about the authors rights of the person(s) who made the scenarios.

BTW a question to Rich H. and Bill P. Would it be a violation of HPS copyright if someone makes a map file that is considered by the system as having correct checksum?

All of those downloads include and require a modified exe file from the HPS games - which is copyright infringement and hence illegal. Also, by the fact that someone has gone in and altered the code there's no guarantee that nothing malicious has not been inserted as well.

Mods that enhance the product put out by a company are great, the user must buy the game to play them - no problem.

Distributing hacked versions of the game which bypass the original company is not fine.

And as Phil said, it was my post on the Blitz, and I'm not posting the above as a representative of either them or this club, but rather a company representative. I generally avoid doing that, but when legal issues arise it is necessary.
