I stumbled on a game company - Slitherine Strategies. Has anyone bought any of their games? They have a game on the Medieval Campaigns coming out this year that looks pretty nice. Here is the link: http://www.slitherine.co.uk/games/thcgbotma Only playable on LAN or local PC. Also one of the Napoelonic period: http://www.slitherine.co.uk/games/cnaw This one can be played by email. The Medieval game has some stunning screenshots. Looks interesting doesn't it Bill The screen shots are presumably captures from history channel programmes and probably play during combat. The Napoleonic screen shots suggest a cross between something like EU and that Nappy game that came out a few years back, (the name of which escapes me), for which most functionality was lost in the pbem version. Looks like it is played at a strategic level, possibly divisional and above? If logistics / politics plays a good part in the game I might be interested but I am guessing it is not a good tactical level game. Certainly good to learn if anyone has tried it though: http://www.slitherine.com/games/cnaw Mark |

I have Slitherine's Chariots of War. Great game. This series has Rome, Troy, Spartan as well. Chariots is Biblical time frame set in the Middle East. You deploy troops, issue orders, and the AI runs the battle, pretty fun. In between battles you build troops, cities, etc. March about trying to increase your empire. I bought ROME for my son's Christmas gift. It runs on his PSP. It is a great game, too. You buy units of various troop types, train them, deploy them, issue orders and the AI runs the battle. Graphics are great in the game and the History Channel video clips. That series used this game to make the computer generated battle scenes. It has a few campagins to it, similar to the linked campaign idea JT uses. I got Europa Universalis SPQR ROME for Christmas, and have played at least 1 hour a day on it since, usually averaging 3-5 hours. I think it's safe to say, GREAT GAME! I would like to see a Nap version, or an American Revolution, or French and Indian War version.... maybe a horse and musket type thing. They probably have made them already, I've just been playing ROME too much to check thier website. hehehe....[:D] Colonel Al Amos 1erè Brigade Commandant 2ème Division de Dragons |

I agree with Al, I bought Chariots of War for something like $9 in the bargain bin and played it a A LOT. Simple mechanics, but complex strategic choices (troop, resource and population management). I played all three of the games (Chariots, Legion {the original}) and Spartan). Chariots was my favorite because it has the widest variety of troops. Rome was my least favorite, but was the most challenging. One thing that was interesting but also hard to manage) was that in Spartan and Chariots of War, when your empire got to a certain size, you had to re-arrange your core cities that produce your best units and change them to resource production mostly because it takes so long to get units to the front. So you really had to plan ahead, take a strategic pause, or fight with low quality units (unit quality is a measure of technology level and specific buildngs in cities), making for a nice long game of empire building...
