Default means 'as set by the manufacturer'. I have no idea what settings, if any, come with a game. It is normal to select your own optional rules by agreement with an opponent.

Actually there is no Default button as in the other game series so unless you have just installed the game you wouldn't know what they are.

I just installed Wagram not long ago and the only option that is ON is:

Weak ZOCs

All others are OFF by default.

I would highly consider turning ON some of the options to enjoy the game more.

Well,

for example default happens when a young lieutenant is obliged to pay for a general's drink and he just hasn't got enough cash. Depending on how much did the general drink the lieutenant may loose his horse, saddle, baggage, robe, sword, awards etc. But it rarely comes to that since Helga often allows to pay in parts later[^][;)][:p]

Of course my dear Sir, if he is a cavalryman he will probably lose more

Monsieur I would say that first get a understanding with whom you are playing what kind of house rules are to be played next pick some one who will be understanding about the Op rules then use the Op rules that suit your style of play. I never try to use NME in my games now I get beat up by that.
