Ok - so no, a new game is not out today for the Napoleonic Wars series.

BUT ... if you are playing a campaign game that only has ONE scenario (big Waterloo, Eckmuhl, etc.) then I have found something that will make many of you happy.

You CAN encrypt the game file.

How?

Start up the Campaign Game.
Make your choices.
The Battle game starts up. Play ONE full turn of the battle using the .cpf file.
Once you get to Turn 2 do the following:

1. Open up the file using the Campaign engine (front end) as per normal.
2. While in the Battle Engine go to File and pick Save As. Pick a name for the file (uses default battle.bte otherwise).
3. The file will get saved as a .bte file type. That is the normal extension we use for standalone games.
4. Play out your turn.
5. Make sure you have PBEM Encryption enabled under the Options menu.
6. End the Phase.
7. When prompted enter in a password.
8. Send the .bte file to your opponent.

Your opponent will open the file without a password but once he ends the Phase the engine will prompt him to enter a password if the PBEM Encryption option is enabled in the Options menu.

I was happy to find this out. I know some of you guys will make use of this in your ONE scenario campaigns.

(remember: dont use this if you are playing a campaign file that has more than one scenario - you will not be able to continue on to a future battle - though I figure that sooner or later someone that knows code will figure out how to convert the files back to .cpf format will get us to that level)

Thanks Bill. Eric Voogd and I are in turn 26 of the 524 turn Jena campaign and it converted to the bte file. The encryption password prompt did not occur until the file was returned however, vice after selecting PBEM Encryption and ending the current turn.

Odd as I was able to encrypt my file on the same turn.

But its good that someone did check this out. The end result - no more embarrassing moments when Ernie opens up the file and sees the other player's troops! [:D][8D][:p][;)]
