DVD Rom Question...

Post subject:  DVD Rom Question...
So I know it is slightly non-related, but...is there any disadvantage to getting a DVD-RW drive as oppsoed to a straight DVD drive...I had once thought that using the writeable drive as a regular drive could wear down the writeable part of it.

Either way I already have a writeable....

Does it matter? Any thoughts?

I'm having trouble loading some games on my PC after getting a new hard drive and windows, but for some reason I think it is the DVD drive....its original in a 6 year old machine...

I do not think that your DVD drive should cause installing games to be a problem. If it works for one game, it should work for any game.

There are many different names for optical drives out there. Most have a variety of different formats that they can burn, but ALL should be able to read any CD (or if DVD is used) that most games are produced on.

There are DVD RW drives that have the following specs:

Specifications:24X CD-ROM, 24X CD-R, 16X CD-RW, 8X DVD-ROM, 8X DVD+R 8X DVD-R, 4X DVD+RW, 4X DVD-RW, 2.4X Double layer

Supported Media Types: CD-ROM, CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-ROM, DVD-R, DVD-RAM, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD+R, DVD+R DL, DVD-R DL

As you can see it plays and records a wide variety of formats and in this case, also double layer.

Another drive gives this:

Yeah I tried my other drive and it does the same thing. They are AGEOD & Matrix games, I wonder what the issue could be?

Anyone else run into that....

Have you stopped by the MATRIX forums? Sometimes problems are posted there and they might relate to your problem.
