Ooooooo! Very interesting indeed. I like the sound of the doctrine and time delay for orders. Bring it on! Col Mike Ellwood Konig Regt 1 Bde, 22 Div VII Saxon Corps, ADR |

I can't say how much I am looking forward to it, even remembering that it won't be all things, etc. etc. I remember talking about having a game like this when I tired of tabletop miniatures back in the early 1990s. Almost 20 years later and va voom!! I love the fact that it will ship with the terrain and OoB editors inherent in it. So the buyers have the ability to create anything they like, historical or fictional, anytime between 1805 and 1814 (and, with a little squint, through the revolutionary wars). That's extraordinarily generous and, I think, indicates JMM's attitude to 'the thing'. It's a great day for this little mob of esoteric gamers! I hope the Napoleonic Wargames Club will really enjoy the benefits of it, too ![]() |

I hope that they allow night fighting: 1/ Time and weather conditions: Which season and what weather conditions do you want to fight in? What does it matter? Well it matters when the sun comes out, how much daylight you have (the battle can last as long as your men can see). Will you have fog to limit visibility or snow to slow you down? Rain to render your muskets useless except for their bayonets? Or maybe you’d rather limit the weather effect by fighting in dry conditions. Night fighting did occur in the Napoleonic wars. Wagram village, Maloyaroslavits (sp), etc. Will the game allow for illumination for full moon, light from fires from the village, etc? The review sounds very good. Love the whole feel of it. Just very cuatious as to how it will fight. But it sounds positive. Night fighting? Personaly I hope the night fighting is very limited. I have found in the HPS titles where we play through the night the troops do not rest. Yes the time skip helps that and is a good way to simulate the passage of time, however I would prefer to see some serious fatigue set in to units that do not rest a certain amount of time each night.[8D] Still allow reasonable night movement(i.e. VERY limited off road and slow/limited on road). Allowing very limited actual fighting (the one hex visibility helps limit this and is good). But more importantly being able to decide when and where formations actually rest. [|)] Otherwise the whole space-time continuum is out of sync and just wrong![:D] Col Mike Ellwood Konig Regt 1 Bde, 22 Div VII Saxon Corps, ADR |

One thing that is never brought out about night fighting is that during the summer it was preferable to the troops! The sun had gone down and the day's heat was no longer bearing down on them. I think that fatigue in any game should be an accumulation of the exertions of the unit and not just the time of day. Night marches were actually easier on the troops in Spain for instance where the hot sun no longer could fatigue them further. So it all depends on the time of year and location. And how much the troops had fought that day or if they had marched to the battlefield to fight (as at Wagram). Lots of factors and not just a time compression issue. I am going to wait on the initial release and listen to the reviews from you guys before I commit to buying. Mainly on this one I will probably do what alot of folks do with software these days - wait for the first update to come out and hear if it resolves the issues that were brought up at the release time. Bill - You are right on the multitude of factors of course. Its always difficult trying to determine the main factors that should be considered and then if any minor ones actually should be too. The complexity/size/capacity of the engine I suppose will always dictate what can and can't be dome and then adjusting within those paramaters I think is the key. We all sympathise with you on that. Your idea of when to buy sounds very logical [;)] Col Mike Ellwood Konig Regt 1 Bde, 22 Div VII Saxon Corps, ADR |
