Was a French 24lb Howitzer also known as a 5.7 or 5.5 inch howitzer? Colonel Bill Peters Armee du Rhin - V Corps, Cavalerie du V Corps, 20ème légère Brigade de Cavalerie, 13ème Hussar Regiment HPS Napoleonic Scenario Designer (Eckmuhl, Wagram, Jena-Auerstaedt and ... more to come) ![]() |

From Bowden's Napoleon and Austerlitz pg 69: "Because different manufacturers had different calibers, the smaller, lighter howitzers were listed as obusier de 5 pounces, 4 lignes, or as obusier de 5 pounces, 6 lignes, or as obusier 5 pounces, 7 lignes. In the later years of the Empire, all of these different lighter howitzers would simply be referred to as obusiers de 24, which described the howitzer by the weight of its projectile, that being 24 livres (pounds)." Hope this helps. |
