In the Austerlitz game is a PDF that those of you that get the game should check out. Its called Armies of 1805.pdf.

In this file are the actual graphics that Joe Amoral created for the game and emailed to Mark Adams. Monsieur Adams then reduces them and sets them in the correct position in the Units.bmp file. And you see them in the Info window in a much reduced manner and miss out on the great detail that Joe put into his work.

Here is a sample portion of the document:

My eyes nearly fell out of their sockets when I saw the incredible job that Joe does for us. Then I was saddened to think that when it was reduced the customer could not enjoy it.

So I created a PDF that has as many of the original pictures that he had created for Campaign Austerlitz.

Make sure you check this out when you get the game. One look and you will see why John Tiller calls Joe "Amazing!"

Mike - the way I do it now is that I try and add in ONE goodie.

Thus in Jena I added in those spreadsheets for the armies. You could use it for reference for creating scenarios. I didnt do this for Austerlitz.

This will probably be the ONLY time I do this PDF. Why? It took TOO much time to do it!

I used HTML for the original file and then with Open Office made it into a PDF. Far too much finagling to be honest.

My point to make was that folks have been bashing Joe's work and its not fair. He does great work and frankly its lost in the reduction process.

I wish we could have mouse-over feature in the game for the Unit pic. The larger pic would show up on screen so you could see the unit pic in its full glory. It would be an option of course and really its a pipedream I am sure. I dont think we would see it ...

But Joe does some great art work and this file showcases it.

For my next titles I will probably go back to the spreadsheet approach. Or toss in a box of Sees Candies![8D]

You're definitely right that bashing is unfounded, I guess there are some people that don't quite get that resizing an image necessarily results in losing quality (any image...).

I'd known that you'd mentioned this file ( but hadn't had time to look for it - I think I was assuming a .bmp file - but now that I got a handle on it I will be adding something similar to the page SDC has about it (I'm a Cuirassier fan so am leaning in that direction). . . as well as mentioning the file to have a look at.

Good stuff, and it's 58 pages.

Mouse over effect ... hrm -you know while I can't do anything about the game I can do something on the page to illustrate your point ... I was about to use it (when it failed) on something else - but they call it a disjointed rollover.

Something like this:

X

Where you mouse over one of the smaller X's and it shows up in the larger cell below.

Good stuff.

Yeah, this is like getting a free book with the game! I love it. Not usually my thing but it is so well done that I am slowly going through it...

PLease, no candies, they will not taste good as a PDF and who knows how they will arrive smashed into a CD case....
