Post subject: | Austerlitz Update |
Guys - an update for Austerlitz should be out in the next week or so. It will contain all of the files I have posted plus an engine update the corrects the routed 3d icon issue. If you have any comments on the files that you think should be changed please email me and I will give them a look-over. At this time I do not plan on adding in any more 15 min. versions based on the feedback I got. Well maybe for the Durenstein scenarios as I noticed that the 10 min. version of the long battle (66 turns) seems to drag just a bit. Other than that no other 15 min. versions will be added in. One of our customers wondered if we could add in some of the Operation Eagle (invasion of England) scenarios from the campaign to the main game directory so that you can find them easier. What I will do is make up a new scenario that uses the large Dover to Canterbury map and add that in as an extra. If any of you ever want to be able to see a scenario in the Scenario Selection menu (from your main game directory) all you need to do is copy it there. For me to do it would mean that any time I have to edit that scenario I would have to remember to correct both versions. I prefer to have a completely new scenario added in. I will get some helpers to look it over before it goes into the update. Tentative date is sometime before December 10. I just sent John Tiller a note to release the first update for Austerlitz so you guys should see it show up on the HPS site by this coming weekend (maybe next Wednesday at the latest). There is a new engine update that allows cavalry to be attacked in Obstructed terrain. Thus if your cavalry is in woods, village (but not building hexes), rough, etc then infantry (and yes, skirmishers) can attack it. This is going to be a bit different for most of us so just remember to keep your cavalry out of these kinds of hexes when large groups of infantry are around. Its not an Option so its default for all games. Other updates include corrections noted in my earlier post concerning the First Player in several of the medium sized Austerlitz battle scenarios. I also added in a few Alternate situations as well. Dierk Walther noted some errors in the city of Augsburg which I corrected. Thanks again to Dierk for his help in this dept. (he was most helpful for the Jena game as well). Happy gaming guys! This change makes sense - cavalry should be vulnerable in difficult terrain. Still hoping for some kind of cavalry counter-charge feature, even if only the old BG version restored to HPS multiphase mode. Lt.Col. Rich White 3rd Cav. Bgde. British Cav. Div. II Corps Anglo-Allied Army |

[:(] Sheesh Rich, give it a break. I would prefer for John to put together a brand new game that sells millions to wasting time on an older engine at this point. We have reached the capacity in this market and I doubt that getting him to code the game to make it better in too many places is going to make that much of a difference in sales. Please John, come out with something that captures the market .... As always, Bill, I make my own Unit Icons, and I have found an error in all Austerlitz Campaign's OOBs. For all Austrian Supply Wagons, instead of their Unit Icon number "42" there is the number "92" that for the Prussian Trains. I corrected it over by hand. And one more: many Inf. Btns, that of the same regiment, have different icons and as effect - the different Regimental colours (1st Btn - yellow, 2nd - red etc.) It is pretty inconvenient when they on a map - you should always to reed their name. ![]() General-Adjutant Prince Vladimir Repnin 2nd Grenadier Division 8th Corps 2nd Russian Army, His Imperial Majesty Chevalier Guards' Chief ![]() |

I hadn't seen the supply wagon error and the update is already out to HPS so it will get in next time. I did update them tonite and sent them off to John Tiller but I doubt if they make it into the update. Maybe they will ... And then again maybe they wont .... John told me that the file is off to HPS and he doesn't want to resend the file unless its an emergency. This is a cosmetic fix and I will supply the OBs that I repaired for folks to use via a link to my server where I will place the zip file AFTER the update comes out. I dont know when we will do another update for Austerlitz so I want to make these available to you guys. There are no combat values changes in the OB. Just the icon numbers. Thanks again Vladmir for noting this. If anyone sees an icon that is incorrectly mapped please let me know. I really appreciate this kind of feedback. I have a member of the team that is doing QC work for me now. His name is Warren Bajan and he is really a big help on many areas of the game development. He reads German and French and on the two projects he has joined he has proved himself to be of great worth to our efforts. I dont think I could have gotten as far as I have on both projects (in progress) without him. He is reviewing all of my work as we put it together. Even though he is part of the Playtest Team he is going to be exempted from having to playtest to a certain extent so that we know that the OBs point properly to the artwork. Paco has also done this in the past but this year he got heavily sidetracked with some serious family issues and couldn't be as active as before. But he continues to lend an "eye" to the work and has been helpful in the past. Any error you see in Austerlitz is my own. I was not rushed nor did I pressure myself either. Its just the human error element and I apologize to you guys that it may have bothered. Glad to be of service! <SALUTE>[8D] Colonel Bill Peters Armee du Rhin - V Corps, Cavalerie du V Corps, 20ème légère Brigade de Cavalerie, 13ème Hussar Regiment HPS Napoleonic Scenario Designer (Eckmuhl, Wagram, Jena-Auerstaedt, Austerlitz and ... more to come) Not the President of the Musket and Cannon Club ![]() |
