I am considering obtaining HPS Austerlitz and would like to know if minor battles are included into the game? And if so how many and what are they?
Also what is the game’s bibliography?

Many scenarios of 6 to 40 turns and many over that number of turns. Way more than can easily be listed. Many are set for solo play, also.

Hi Alexy,

Hows your Borodino Battle going? I'm still keen to do it with you when your ready. The Austerlitz game is good!

In answer to your question in regards the difference between a Kutusov's hordes and my MIGHTY Army was becuse a fleeing rabble of armed peasants get that label. Whereas an organised, well equipped and lead force of professional armed citizens becomes an army...lead by L'Emperor they become MIGHTY! [:D]

Hi Mike,
Borodino is going fine – we are on Turn 16- doing about 8-9 emails per week: French just captured Utiza breaking through but Russian reinforcements are on the way. Fletches are taken but Russian Guard is counterattacking to retake them.

Also keen to try this battle against you with me playing “fleeing rabble of armed peasantsâ€

Austerlitz is the best title so far in HPS in my view. It has an enormous number of scenarios and options. Also the latest game engine updates which are improving the game greatly. Such as infantry able to melee cavalry in cover.

Re the horde:[:D][:D]

This might be a very old piece of xenophobic fear that creeps into western vernacular around the masses from the east threatening the 'civilised' [xx(] people from western Europe.

Indeed the perceived threat from the east dates back to Roman times and is the basis of many clashes of great cultures. This historical background embeds such phrases.

I do not think it's used in a derogatory sense as a 'horde' carries a very intimidating military status to it. I am sure Anton the cossack can add some comments on this [:D][:D] (seriously Anton I am only joking)

Wikipedia gives us this list regarding the term:

the White Horde, formed 1226

the Blue Horde, formed 1227

the Golden Horde, a Tatar-Mongol state established in the 1240s

the Nogai Horde, a Tatar clan situated in the Caucasus Mountain region, formed in the 1390s

Jüz, the traditional divisions of Kazakh society, consisting of the Greater, Middle and Lesser Hordes

Taking into account the results at Trebbia such a propaganda was very welcome. 150 000 rebel scum is not a mach to 25 000 well led faithful soldiers of His Majesty and Motherland. Al - yes, but Darius and Xerxes were more or less "civilizations." I think what is maintained by the Eastern threat is mainly barbaric tribes.

But you could say that the Persian threat was probably one of the first for sure. The entire migratory movement from the east to northern Europe and then the incursions by the Goths should also be included and this goes way back before the Punic Wars.

I have accumulated all of the Fields of Glory army list books by Osprey. They make a fascinating read just from their short narrative that each list has. Its truly amazing to see all of the warrior groups/civilizations that entered Europe and the western Middle East.

I have thought of using the REN game engine to put together an ancients module. All you need for the most part is a flat plain area with a river or hills scattered in to simulate some of the more interesting battles of antiquity.

(I cant get the hang of the Ancients game Al or I would definitely be playing it - I just wish I could understand which way the units would be facing at the end of their moves)

Hey Alexey,

Ive just bought a new upgraded laptop with good specs to be able to play NAPOLEON:TOTAL WAR, which I will be using when Im away each week so i will be able to improve the turn rate quite easily now [:)]!
Give me a week or two to get my head around it (first laptop!) and I will be ready when you are. If you want to finish your current game first no problem.
Promise to keep a silly look on my face throughout [:o)]
