Post subject: | Balancing Scenarios |
I am in the midst of working on several games and as the Playtesters report back in with their games its noteworthy that for the most part my designs seem to have merit. However, if anyone notes a scenario where you think I completely blew it (based on numerous replays or just a very good anaylysis - not based on blundering into guns, etc) then please let me know. I would want to see a game file (would need the password) and some sort of writeup. I am going to work on the Wagram update and then Jena next. I hope to have Wagram out shortly. There are fewer changes to make for it. Jena will also have a few changes. Nowhere near as many as you saw in Eckmuhl. Feel free to send me email with game files and comments as it always helps to see how the game has played out. This obviously includes campaign files. If you could send me your CHOICE for that branch of the campaign it helps too - campaign file name you are playing (not the one you chose for the game - the one in the game directory) also helps me. Sure I have thought of it but who has the time? Anyone is welcome to put out 10 min. versions. Its rather easy: 1. Make a copy of the PDT file that the scenario uses. Rename it by adding in _10 before the .pdt file extension to show that its different. 2. Change the terrain cost data and MP point allowance lines. Do NOT change the squadron breakdown number to correspond to the 10 Min. PDT files from Austerlitz as that value assumes squadrons as the basic unit. Also the stacking amounts are different. Use whatever value you want to use but the game was meant to use 2000 men and 1000 cavalry, etc. 3. Make a copy of the scenario file. Add in _10 before the .scn file extension to differentiate it from the regular 15 min. version. 4. In the scenario editor open up the new version. The reinforcement and release times need to be changed to be in increments of 10 mins. I usually change "xx15" to "xx10" and "xx45" to "xx40". The amount of turns is increased by 50 percent. Thus a 12 turn scenario is now 18 turns. The AI script times can be ignored if you are playing the game Head to Head. And know that a "xx15" turn will happen on "xx20" of the same hour anyway. If you didn't want to change any of the reinforcement or release times its not a problem. The main one is the amount of turns. Save your file and you are ready to go. Since Eckmuhl uses one PDT file for the most part the first few steps would only have to be done once. I did up 10 min. versions of the PDT files already I think so all you would need to do is convert the scenario file you want to play - that is make a copy and change the amount of turns. If you want to change the reinforcement/release times that is up to you. But I have no plans of putting out a 10 min set now. I just dont have the time unfortunately.
