Paul, A quick overview you may find at this site http://napoleonistyka.atspace.com/ In particular for the French infantry here: http://napoleonistyka.atspace.com/Frenc ... ganisation and for the French cavalry here: http://napoleonistyka.atspace.com/Frenc ... ganization I suggest that you use info in terms of batallions/squadrons rather than infantry/cavalry regiments. The former were a real tactical "atoms" while the later were just a vague formations. Structure of batallion/squadron remained rather stable compared to regiments. Recall the structure of French infantry regiment - 3 bns, then 2, then 3 again, then 4, then 5 and even 6, then again 3. Batallions/squadrons were to some extent comparable across armies, while regiments were not. Compare British 10 company strong "regiments" of 1812 with French 6 batallion strong regiments of the same year.
![]()
Eyo Imperatorskogo Velichestva Leib-Kirassirskogo polku General-Adjutant Anton Valeryevich Kosyanenko Commander of the Second Army of the West
|
