How about a tournament where members of the club play for their REAL country?

We would have a max of three members per country. Slots on the team in the case of more than three signups would be by lot.

UK, USA, France, Netherlands, etc.

World Cup format.

Short scenarios. Nothing over 12 turns in length.

Would be fun I think.

All games would be worth full points regardless of whether you are playing someone from your own army or the dreaded enemy!

Sounds a good idea, but shouldn't the various players' "countries" be the historical states of c.1800? Otherwise there'd be far too many US players fighting for the three slots.

So some US players would count as Mexican (or else Spanish, since the Mexicans were currently fighting a war of independence) and Louisiana ones might get the choice of French, Spanish or US!

German and Italian players would pick the historical state they currently live in, or were born in.

Irish players might count as UK players (due to the 1801 Act of Union)

Dutch and Belgium players would count as French (at least until after the battle of Leipzig)

.......................

Each player would command troops of his own nationality in a custom-made balanced scenario, with the opening moves done by an umpire.

This sounds like a great idea. I would prefer current status for countries, since Canada was still a British colony in the 1800s.

Yes, but some of the countries do not exist anymore. There was no Germany at the time for instance. Just a group of principalities and Prussia and Saxony.

Oh well. Next ...[;)]

Maybe we could stick to those countries that have armies in the Club? And hence people would be divided by their army affiliation rather than by birthplace.

And if it's about the countries I would dream of a tournaments of 2 man strong teams. If every Army provides two teams there will be 16 (4 from France; 8 from allies; 4 French and 4 allied play qualification round for 4 more slots). 16 teams may play in group round to provide 8 teams for quarterfinal or they may compete in play-off from the very beginning. If the team is "subnational" like Netherlands or Poland it may compete under it's own name. Not more than one general or Marechal per team.

It would be cool if teams competed with their respective armies. Forces about corps strong.

Say Russians will have corps as in 1812 (strength in brackets). Smaller batallions, a lot of arty and additional cossacks cavalry. 16 regular(600), 8 jager(600), 4 converged grenadiers (450) batallions. 15 cavalry squadrons (150), 10 cossack sotnyas (100), 36 light, 24 heavy and 12 cavalry arty pieces. Total strength 16200/3250/72.

Austrians will have their huge batallions and corps as in 1809 with average cavalry and arty. 16 regular(1000), 4 grenzer(600), 2 2-rank rifle batallions(600), 10 squadrons(200), 24 light, 6 extra light grenzer horse,6 heavy pieces. 19600/2000/36.

Prussians will have corps of 1815 - regular core with landwerh, above average cav and average arty. 12 regular, 6 fusiliers, 9 landwerh batallions (all 800) in 3 brigades. 10 cavalry and 6 landwerh (attached to brigades) squadrons(150), 18 light, 6 heavy and 6 cavalry pieces. 21600/2400/30.

British will have British 2-rank infantry core with better fire ability, only a few cav and arty.24 two rank regular, 3 2-rank light and 1 2-rank rifle, 4 allied or landwerh (all 600), 8 cavalry squadrons(150), 18 foot and 6 horse 9 pounders. 19200/1200/24.

French will have average infantry, above average cav and arty. 16 regular, 8 light batallions (all 750), 12 cavalry squadrons (200), 36 light, 6 heavy and 6 cavalry pieces. 18000/2400/42.

"Subnational" teams will have the same structure as the parent nation but with "native" unit names.

Why cant the Prussians have a corps using the 1813 Spring formations? Why do they have to have landwehr included?

I would much prefer fighting with a regular Prussian force against an Austrian one for sure.

(we should have Prussians vs. Austrians to vie for the Weenie Cup maybe?)[:p]

Would love to see Austria vs. Russia too. The Galician-Polish Cup or something like that. Not impossible to do and frankly would make for a fun game. You could use Austerlitz for the game engine and use custom OBs.

Bill, it's a sample. It could be "1806 corps" for Prussia as well. Also maybe there should be a bit more cav for each nation with average of 1/4 the force. About 1/3 for Russians and 1/6 for Brits.

I believe we should use one of the "up to date" engines - Austerlitz, Eckmuhl, Jena(if it was patched). Not sure that enough people have the first one though. It won't be very hard to do. The question is who will set up the scenarios. I can't promise to do that. I can provide OOBs, PDTs, etc. And I'd like to take part in Russian team[:I]
