The commander of the Prussian Landwher Count Von Ostrich preparing to signal the retreat by listening for the sound of the approaching Old Guard at Ligny 1815.

At this period in history this is recognised as a customary pose Prussian leaders would assume. Scholars believe it related to some kind of identification of suitable funeral plots for their troops especially when the Old Guard was involved.

It is also believed to convey the degree of open mindedness many Prussian leaders displayed in the period. Some French scholars believe this pose formed the inspiration for the Arce de Triumphe design.

Notice the ornate uniform and custom breaches.

That picture was taken in Scott's backyard. Having lived near Columbia, Maryland, years ago, many ostriches are located in the DC area and also roost in Congress when its in session!

Digging their head in the sand is Congress' favorite pastime!

Scott very unsporting of you to refer to actual history.

However I recall 2 btns of the old guard routed 18btns of Von Ostrichs troops in the Plancenoit. They did so by saying Boo!

As for running away that's been reported incaccurately the French army mearly fell back in good order once they had exhausted the supply of captured Prussian sausage.

Napoleon never went into exile he actually changed his name and went on to become the president of the USA.

Perhaps that Ostrich is me.....[:o)]
