Gentlemen,( for some I use the term lighty) ![]() I would like to open a topic to discuss what changes members would like to see in the HPS Napoleonic series of games. Here are a few of mine. 1) Command radiuses for Corp and Army level commanders because now only division and lower levels of organization mean anything. 2) A command radius button on the tool bar. Its a pain in the posterior to always go to the View Menu pop-down. 3) Enable pioneers to construct redoubts, abatis and other such things. 4) Pontoon bridge trains that can be used to bridge rivers and be constructed by pioneers. These would be really cool for some of the large campaign scenarios. 5) Having cavalry skirmishers as done in the American Civil War games. I 'm tired of getting my cavalry shot all to hell by running into infantry it can't see. 6) Making it possible to have artillery in full batteries and cavalry in full regiments for all games. It is again a pain in the hindquarters to move masses of cavalry squadrons and battery sections in the large scenarios. I encourage comments and also how practical some of the these suggestions can be made into the game. Thanks |

Thomas you may not be aware but some of these have been done: 1. Yes this is available in the new title Austerlitz 2. Push the K key and you get the command radius (all games in the series) 3&4 are problematic as you would need to lobby HPS on those. Not sure they are top priority though. One thing Bill talked about was having broken bridges around the place that you can repair thus simulating the bridge building process. As this could only happen at a suitable point anyway not sure if he did it in any scenarios. 5. In the Austerlitz and Jena titles you can brake a sqd down into two companies sometimes this might be only 26 men. 6. The regimental cavalry option is available in Austerlitz I recall and perhaps Jena (can't remember). |

I had not put together a cavalry regiment action yet for Jena. Something to add to my list of things to do. Yes, the pontoon train issue can be handled by having broken bridges. I have no plans to ask John to have a special ability for Pioneers to build a bridge from scratch. Just too many other things on his plate and my list of ideas does not include that one. If you can get him to do it go for it but frankly I have more pressing issues that I think should get added before that does. Like ships per the EAW/REN series for instance. Thanks Colin for your answers. They are "spot on" .... Oh yes, building abbatis. Sort of like building a breastwork ... I have read how they would prepare the defense of a village for instance. I would like to get it to where Pioneer type units add to the defense of covered terrain like chateau or village/building hexes. Also to trying to take them too. They would add/subtract 10% for their presence in the hex. Would give you something to do with them besides .... well repair broken bridges! I have suggested that one now for some time so its just a matter of if John wants to do it, or if someone like you emails him about it. But to be sure its been suggested. Well not building Abbatis but having the Pioneer type provide the 10 percent bonus either way. |
