Gentlemen, A question on Leadership values from OOB. “If the unit is stacked with a Leader of the same organization or a higher organization as the unit and if the Leadership rating of the Leader is higher than the Morale value, the Morale value is set equal to that rating. If the Leadership rating is already equal to the Morale value, then 1 is added to the Morale value.” HPS Manual That is: if the leader’s leadership is higher – then leadership rating is used if the leader’s leadership is equal – then +1 is added But what happens if the leader’s leadership is lower than units morale value? For example, if a routed unit of “C” quality is stacked with its brigade/divisional leader with “D” Leadership – does the unit still get +1? Or nothing? |

And one more question: do the Quality modifiers associated with fatigue, low ammo and being under fire apply when passing an Unrout morale check? |

Dean, my understanding is "yes", the unit recieves the bonus even if the leader has a lesser value. The disadvantage of the lesser value leader is he may fail his check, and then become "detached" which causes the unit to loose all the cumlative +1s from the rest of the chain of command. Anton, I believe the answer to your question is also, "yes." |

I contacted John Tiller about this to get an official answer. Here it is: "The unit gets no bonus. John" That was my feeling as well. The key term is "equal to" but note that "less than" was not listed. If any of you ever played Squad Leader if you put a +1 leader in the same hex with a squad he actually helps them "bug out" sooner. In this case a leader of little inspirational value would not help a unit recover. Hope that helps ... |
