Someone needs to do one! How is everyone doing these days! Good to see some old faces still around here. At a battlefield near you, Tim Cavallin |

Alas, a decade back there was a game that was too buggy to survive but that was full of promise - called Wargamer: Napoleon 1813 published by Empire Interactive (see http://au.pc.ign.com/articles/163/163582p1.html). It was supposed to provide the ability to play the campaign AND battles but collapse at the changeover. It is now housed as an open-source program here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/wargamer/. I played a little of the campaign stuff and it was quite good but just not stable enough to rely on. ![]() Frank ?? of Adanac Design - who did Campaigns on the Danube distributed through Matrix Games is apparently working on an 1813 campaign game but last email I had from him indicated that it was in line behind a few more lucrative projects. Dunno what's on offer in the board game world that you could adapt onto computer... |

Eventually we will get to it. Just about everything in the Napoleonic spectrum is being worked on or is planned. Providing the river don't rise and the bugs ![]() |

Wargamer 1813 was almost one of the best games ever. After two unofficial patches it was mostly stable and working as designed but it had one fatal flaw- the AI-I do not know if the problem was the AI itself or the initiative ratings of the commanders but the Coalition troops would never really attack so the game was unplayable as the French and only moderately playable as the Coalition. The tactical battles did work fairly well after the patches (they were unplayable in the original form)... I would like to see someone revive the format of the game because its design is the best I have seen for combining operational, tactical, and some strategic level parts of a game. The whole thing was real time but played at a speed that did not make it a click fest. |

Solo games are the main selling point of a company. I would like to see something like Combat Mission for the battles and operational movement. Plan your move and watch them be executed. That way no clickfest is involved. I really do not care much for real time games. About the only one I will play is Total War: Medieval 1 and 2. |

I agree with what you guys said about Wargamer: Napoleon 1813. It had a great feel to it and promised so much. I don't think anyone has done anything with the code for years. A terrible shame. |

Bill, it is funny you said that because I almost typed that it felt like combat mission. It was pretty slow, even on the fastest speed, but not glacial. It had options for orders delays, etc. If someone were to rework it, I would advocate for combat mission style turns, where it runs for a time and then stops. So wego rather than yougo/igo. So, so close to being one of the best games ever. I actually bought it in the store becuase I thought it was HPS Napoleon's Russian Campaign (I had just read a preview of the game). I was a bit uneducated at the time- 1812, 1813, whats the difference, it was a long time ago ![]() |

LOL - 1812 to 1813 - from worse to worser! ![]() It would be interesting to find out if any of our French members (or French related members) lost anyone during these wars. Has anyone traced their family tree back to a relative the served in the Napoleonic Wars? |

No, but my great grandfather had a large clock that he says his grand-father "liberated" during the Franco Prussian War! |

Yes, my grand-grandfather was Evert Roelof Bijl, sergeant in the Dutch 8th militia (Bijlandt brigade, 2nd division). That's the reason I became involved in everything related to this period of time, a long time ago. My grandfather survived Qbras and Waterloo and I guess he supposed to have good stories to tell! http://www.8militia.net/ greetings, |

Good heavens, I feel as if my well-flogged horse is certainly lame hereabouts or possibly deceased! (Actually I like the idea of riding a spectral horse!! Mwhwhwaahahaa). Anyway, I too agree about 1813, the times I could use it. Very impressive. As for the Combat Mission references (and harking back to my almost dead horse), you guys haven't looked at Les Grogs, have you? You give orders, they are carried out until completed or you update them or the enemy scatters your troops. It's similar to CM but superior in that you don't have to micro manage everything (just the bits you want too!!). Moreover, you can fight a battle with an army, export the resulting OoB and use it in a later battle in a campaign... There there my old nag! I didn't really mean you were dead. You're just a little thin... |

Harry - yes, we all know that LG does this. But do the units perform historically? From what I heard earlier by critics the cavalry will do dumb things and end up carved up by the enemy. I would like to command my units in a way that goes with history (by brigade orders) but I am holding off on LG until a. I get the money and b. I hear that it has been corrected to have the units perform historically. If more club members were to play it and report back that they were EXCITED about the way that the units perform then I would spend my money on it. I like the concept and enjoyed Combat Mission quite a bit (but it has issues as well - I remember the Prisoner Bug that caused the game to crash). |
