http://mapstor.com/

Mapstor has all of the Soviet/Eastern Bloc military maps for sale at a very reasonable price at their website. While the names are in Russian the topo data is helpful for those of us that are building maps.

I also use Google Maps -> Terrain view as well - free and easy to cut and paste into a larger map to act as an overlay.

Certain that someday the map editor will be available this is good info for those of you that like to make up your own battlefields. Also useful for those of you that like to build boardgames, make up scenarios for your miniature group, etc.

What used to cost hundreds of dollars to buy in paper now costs a fraction of the price. They come in JPG format with a web page you can use to navigate to the region of choice.

Wish I read Russian but hey, I can pretty much use a ref. map if I need to know where I am in any given country.

Some sample prices:

Italy - 35 USD
France - 19 USD
Germany - 12 USD
Spain - 4 USD
UK - 7 USD

Not all of the area is covered in 1:50,000 but the 1:100,000 scale works ok too. I used that scale to build the Eckmuhl maps.

Hope this helps someone out!

Really a steal and frankly not bad to have as just a reference.
