I do not have that game. I would like to hear from folks about it. PBEM - is there ONE phase where you do all of your plotting, expenditures, etc. and then send the file to your opponent? Or is it like EiA where you had to interact on something like seven phases per turn? Made MP games a nightmare. I posted questions on the Slitherine forum. I play Fields of Glory and already have a user for their forum-tree. Seems to have quite a bit of traffic so it is not a dead game. THAT is good to hear! Answer your questions right now Bill: 1. For PBEM - how many phases are there for the player to do? Is it like EiA where there were something like seven phases and you and your opponent did them all in sequence or do you do all of your orders, purchases of units/upgrades to types, etc at once and then send the file to your opponent for the entire turn. In other words one file per turn or is it multiple files per turn per player? 1 file, 1 phase.... 2. What is the level for land units? Battalions? Regiments? Batteries? Divisional level I believe, but with quite a number of units based on your manpower pool & supplies... 3. How many turns typically is a campaign? Use 1805 for an example please. Most are 10-20 turns...massive 1805 Campaign goes to 1814 or 1815 I believe. It is a good number of turns... 4. How many players? 2? or more player nations? Do you play the entire Allied side or does each major Allied nation have its own player? 2 players only....plays play all nations of their respective sides. |

sounds like a perfect fit for the club. any way of a getting a scenario listing/turn count for the DoR? Scoring of the Campaigns could be pretty staright forward as well |

I'll compile a list and send it to you John. Though we probably should have an official Cabinet talk/vote too... Also to note - often or not adding new games is a way to get new members into the Club who play those games. Current members don't have to play them and don't have to like them even......its more or less a marketing tool, especially if it has a popular following. So just because EiA has so many turns to play and people here may not like it, doesn't mean it shouldn't be added in the future, especially seeing it has such a big following. Big following = lots of possible new members....it is a formula I have used for years and has worked great! Next up Crown of Glory... ![]() |

Here is how we do it in the Musket club: 1. We need to see a few games completed before we add it in. 2-3 2. Then we add it to the list ... Reason: merely adding a game is work. And if noone plays it then it is both a waste of time and space on the game form. Here is how I would advertise it here: 1. We want to add the game - anyone out there that owns it and wants to play it. Games would be worth full points if played. 2. The players would send in a screenshot of the final turn. 3. Game would be added to system. Players would turn in New Game form and then an End Game form once they get a game number. If you want to draw people to our club using the game then it would help if we were to advertise ourselves a bit more. We currently host the AGEOD games - how many people have joined here due to advertising of the club hosting those games which are not HPS? These are some good hard questions to ask before you go to the time of putting new games in the inventory. |

There is no reason for all of this work Bill. I have been advertising in the forums for the non-HPS games that we play and I have been doing it for years. Which btw is only two games. When we did things at the iNWC, it took me literally 5 minutes to update our end & new game forms. I am sure being the wizard that he is, it won't take Dominik too long. The fact of the matter is I have seen comments over the years on how people like one game system over another and not everyone is a fan of the HPS system, likewise not everyone is a fan of Matrix or Les Grognards. But if we as a Club want to survive, we are going to have to be open to using these games as marketing tools to get people on board. We ran an aggressive campaign for Les Grognards, made contact with a few other gaming places and added a nice group of people to play it. One of the best experiences I had at the iNWC was meeting some of the right people on Matrix's forum, to get CoG: EE added on board. I played with them for a bit, advertised on the forum and then a key guy kept recruiting people for us. They became our largest subset game, with almost 20 players. Don't think that now that the iNWC is dead, that I don't want to give those fellahs a new home, because I do. I would like to keep continued success that we have enjoyed and get even more people involved... |

Scott, who said anything about this being a one-series club? Just do not see that in my post. Frankly I would love to play something else here. The ACWGC has a good following of the AGEOD ACW game. Why not the Nap one here? Right? But rather than just add in a new game why not Poll the members if they want it? Then get someone to actually play it first before you add it? We added Uncommon Valor by Matrix to the Panzer club. Do you know how many games has been played of it in six years? ZILCH. We never should have added it to the database. We should have found out if the members were interested in playing it first. And that was my mistake honestly. Get a feel for if folks will play it, get some folks to actually play it and complete a game, post an AAR to give visible support for it. That works and saves Dominick time. I find that a lot of folks are willing to volunteer someone else's time but rarely willing to go the extra mile of justifying it. This is a truth that we have seen in these clubs for years. "Let's have medals, etc." and then the folks that wanted them never lift their fingers to help out. Tournaments, etc. Folks volunteer to play in them and then they drop out. This is not to say we should drop medals and tournaments. I am saying that for all of the talk that goes with an idea very few people back it up with making it work. It comes down to the few that do the actual work. Add the game in if you like - advertise that we support it - after a year see how many folks are playing it. I am not saying drop it if it hasn't been played. I am saying find out how much time it does take for Dominick to add it and so on and then if it is a lot of work consider a poll for a new game next time. From what I hear the LG/HW game has had some nice additions and is getting better all the time. Maybe something that I would look into if I can get some cash. I am enjoying Fields of Glory - Digital very much - Scott Clawson is playing me in a game to get used to the interface/game flow. They are put out their Napoleonics miniature rules and it may lead to a digital version. If it does and I like it you can bet I would promote it here. |

![]() Wait a minute. Noone is saying do NOT add it to the club. I am saying why not see if folks here OWN it, want to PLAY it. Have we had any feedback on whether the game is even of interest? Sure, go ahead and add it. We did that with AGEOD. If that is what you want fine. But dont take your toys and run for the door. See the thing through if you want to champion the cause. I am as much for new games being added as the next guy. The only thing stopping me from playing AGEOD for instance is the learning curve and time to play it. I found Fields of Glory to be a blast to play so I am not playing HPS games as much period. So do not read me as a HPS only guy. Frankly I am getting tired of playing it. I think that anyone gets that way when you have been playing only one series for years. Anyone reading me as some sort of HPS/JTS only guy is dead wrong. John - if you and the Cabinet want to add this game in go for it. As a admin guy in several of the clubs I am only thinking of the impact on the guys doing the actual work of adding it in. Study the time it takes to do this. If it is minimal then whatever, but that was my ONLY consideration in the matter. Sheesh, it is not much money, provided I can round up the funds I may play it. I still think my idea of getting someone to play it first to show their support is correct. We added in Rise of Prussia to the Musket club and one set of guys started a game but for work reasons had to drop it. Thus it has yet to be played since. Now we are a smaller group (34 members) but still the idea is that these club exist because a committed group of people do the website work and communicate in emails. THAT was my only concern - that we do not start a tidal wave of new titles added to the club, cause a ton of work on Dominick, admin and then find out that they are not being played. I challenge those that want new games added to PLAY the other ones we have. That will take a lot of wind out of the sails of guys like Pierre who do not see the justification for them being added purely on the grounds that "it will attract new members and/or give us something new to play." If it DOES give us a new game to play ... then play it! And I say this with the best intentions. I advocated adding Sid Meier's Gettysburg to the ACW club years ago. How did I back up my desire? I played over 50 games of it and would regularily report back on the forum about it. "They've taken our guns!" still rings in my ears! Great game as far as I was concerned. May not have been great to play large battles but for a three to four brigade action it was tons of fun. So add in the game if you like. I am just saying that IF the game is added play it and play the ones we have to show justification for their being added in the first place. Give the guys like Pierre no ground to stand on ... ![]() |
