It was a cold night outside the tavern and the murmur from within was audible as the officer reined in his magnificent horse and dismounted. He was carrying in his hand something wrapped in a Russian flag. As he walked into the Tavern a blast of cold air blew fog in with him. He disappeared inside the white haze briefly. There was a pause as the various officers wondered what was up. Then one of them held up a lantern to caste a clearer light in the fog. As he did the French officer emerged with the lantern beaming behind him. Soon the officers recognised the Grand Duc d'Austerlitz. The bright light of the lantern cast an eerie pale reminding all the French officers of a sunrise one very special morning on 2 December 1805. He walked to the allied end of the Tavern carrying the Russian flag something still concealed within it. He reached a large table around which many officers from the coalition were drinking. Laying the flag on the table he unfurled it to reveal a beautiful and shiny Russian sword He held the sword aloft so all could see its inscription. It had "To the Vanquisher of the Invincible" on one side and "Master of Europe IV" on the other. ‘Gentlemen I give you the sword of Field Marshall Gulyaev my friend and great rival the only officer from you rabble to ever defeat me. I have exacted my revenge with a victory on the glorious fields of Austerlitz Vive l'Empereur’ |

A Hanoverian Staff Officer looks up from his paperwork as the great French General enters the tavern. He listens intently to the story of the General’s victory over the Serene Prince Jeka of the illustrious Russian Army. Yes, my dear Guardsman, your words speak the truth, he thinks to himself. Many a fine Allied officer has tried their hand against you in battle and, regrettably, all have fallen to your blade. Prince Jeka being the only exception, once. Motioning to Helga, the Hanoverian says, “Please take GdD Knox a bottle of that fine wine that he so enjoys. Margaux, I believe it is. Deliver it to him with my compliments.” Reaching into his purse, the Hanoverian officer pays Helga for the wine, tipping her well for her extraordinary service. The coin he uses is, according to his normal habit, French, as such coins that he has taken in battle far exceed the King’s pay for a mere Lt. Colonel. As Helga departs, the Hanoverian officer returns to his paperwork. |

Marechal Corbin I plan to write a short case study of the Austerlitz historical scenario and post it in Pierre's. I have played it three times now on both sides and have discovered some fascinating insights. I will notify French officers here first. Helga more drinks.... |
