This poll is slightly different. I am just looking for the format you like best.

Abbreviation:

10 - 10 min moves
15 - 15 min moves
Sqdn - Cavalry is in squadrons
Regt - Cavalry is in regiments
"4" - squadron breakdown factor (4 from a cav unit) - values will be 1, 2, 4 & 6 in the poll.

Sample:

10-Sqdn-2

10 min. moves, squadron sized cavalry, 2 units per squadron

A "1" value for the squadron breakdown factor would mean that no cavalry unit could breakdown.

Let the Poll begin!

Bill
I opted for 15-Regt-6. I prefer longer rather than shorter game turns and Regimental units which can have up to 6 battalions/squadrons. I would generally keep Russian artillery as 12 gun batteries with the option of using extended line. I hope this helps. i will contact you upon my return from holidays on November 25th. Take care. Bill

Best to include all variants - both 10 and 15 minute turns and cavalry regiments/squadrons - and why not gun sections and cavalry firepower too.

The more options the better ... and that way everyone should be happy. :) Some folks might prefer to play one, some others and some might mix things up and so get a different gaming experience from their usual fare.

Perhaps even include some scenarios with 20 or 5 minute turns and with rescaled maps if you have sufficient time. Some of the smaller actions would probably work best at a different scale and other larger scenarios might benefit from 20 or even 30 minute turns.

No. I will not put out three or even four versions of the same scenario to please all of the customers, Rich. Just utter nonsense.

Check the club records and find out how many times a 15 minute version of Austerlitz was played (its in the game) here at the NWC. Then come back to me and say "Yes, you are right, why spend time putting something together so that no one will use it."

I base my findings on the club records. Unless folks play the alternate versions I made I see no point in creating work for myself.

(and note for the record - I got pissed about this response and had a pretty ugly response to make - I edited out my pissed off comments but I do not feel like I have to apologize to anyone for what I have done with my work - if you dont like it open up the editors or a text file program and change the values - that is how I got into this business ...)

So if you want all of that, Rich, put it out for the guys. Be their knight in shining armor. For me, I have other things to do with my time like getting out and riding my bike by the river and getting some exercise. I spend over 10 hours a day on the PC either working on games or doing other things like reading and what have you.

This the last time I will ever comment on something like this. I am doing this poll NOT to promote the idea that I will cater to everyone. It is mainly to show that the numbers do NOT tilt significantly to one side. The other poll that was done here was 15 to 11. That is only a difference of 4 people. Not anywhere near enough to send up a "red flag" to me that the format is flawed.

The Nap series will come to an end eventually. As always folks are welcome to copy the files and come up with their own version of the scenarios. This includes if a cavalry unit is armed with a 12lb cannon.

(note: giving cavalry firepower, in the entire cavalry portion of the OB, is just plain ridiculous - dismounted dragoon types - yes! - hussars - no - we already have enough losses in the game as it is - you are planning on doing this in your games but I for one will just copy the OB and change the values to how we currently have it - and hey, that is how it should be - you think that cavalry with pistols or carbines is right - I say it hardly ever happened and is factored into the melee procedure - but in the end each of us can have the OB as we wont it as they are NOT locked and neither are the PDT files)

Bill, there is certainly no need for you to apologize for the game design work you have done. You do excellent work, and we love it. The same goes for you too, Rich. A poor, hapless gamer like me would be really lost without great guys like the two of you. Thank you both, for the wonderful games you design that allow the rest of us to play. I really mean that! We love you both!

Different opinions are wonderful. They help us all become stronger as a team, and for that very reason, we should embrace our differences. There are as many different ways to play these games as there are people who play them. It is perfectly OK to be different. The best thing to do is simply agree to disagree. We are one merry band of brother gamers and, in this club at least, all honorable officers whose respect for others, reflects our respect for ourselves. :P :P :P

Thanks much Mark. This is very tiring work. To convert the scenarios adds in more room for error too. I often feel like my games go out with too many mistakes in them. Thus I really would like to keep the amount of scenarios down to a minimum. The guys prefer a good BALANCED fight vs. tons and tons of the same scenario with only minor variations. Just impossible for ME to do all of it. I would screw it all up.

We do have a great team - adding you in was really great because of your miniature background. Having Paco and Warren on the team is just super as Paco knows the French army very well and Warren is all things GERMAN.

The rest of you guys compliment them very well. Bill Cann for instance has a good insight into design as he has helped with other projects for miniature gaming. Jeff Mathes offers up really good insight into a strategy line that the players must take for a scenario.

I enjoy our team because none of them is afraid to speak their mind. There are NO "yes men" on our team. Paco for instance prefers the regiments and frankly I have not catered to that much but tonite just cranked out a version of one of the main OBs for my next release in regimental format. Tomorrow I will convert over the historical scenario for the major battle it is associated with. I have two more OBs to convert and historical scenarios to produce for the Cav regiment format and I will just have to call it there. Instructions will be in the game under a new "Design" folder I am adding in that will tell the customer how he can easily change out any scenario and make it a "Cavarly Regiment" format type. Add in that I will be including a tutorial on creating a scenario and also a text file that will go through the PDT file step by step so that folks know what is on each line. Just tons of stuff will be in there that should help folks out.

Keep on gaming guys - we continue to bring you our very best work! And may I add our own Rich White added in company level scenarios too. While Rich is a pest for engine change ideas and so on he is a great ally to have help me out and I greatly appreciate you, Rich. Thanks a bunch for your help and having you look over the next title was a real bonus for me, not knowing what your schedule was like and all that.
