I wonder if any one would be interested in a scenario with the same army on both sides of the field? Just think using the Bavarian map with French on French in Eckmuhl, or Austrian on Austrian. You'd have to use 3D bases ON to keep things straight, but then no one could really cry about one army being better than the other. hmmm.... |

Yes, but then all map hexes would have to be level, open terrain. The armies would have to be deployed symmetrically on both sides of the map. The barometric pressure and weather at both of the players locations would also need be kept the same throughout the game, just to be sure that one player did not derive a decisive psychological advantage due to sunny conditions as opposed to depressing, grey clouds. I think this almost goes without saying. ![]() ![]() ![]() No, seriously, I think the best way to prevent whining, or at the very least render it moot, is to mirror match the battle under the same rules. It he defeats you in the first battle, it is obviously because the scenario is hideously unbalanced. When he soundly trounces you again in the mirror match, you might actually consider giving your opponent some credit for, just possibly, actually being the better player. ![]() ![]() ![]() When I played Colin Knox in Austerlitz, I insisted that he play the Coalition since I believed the French had the advantage in the scenario. He honorably agreed to do so, although I am sure his uniform chaffed throughout the battle. Nevertheless, he defeated me. He is the better player and I readily admit it (although the sun was in my eyes, my cat ran across the keyboard during a critical move, my wife was talking which distracted me from the game, etc, etc, etc.). ![]() ![]() ![]() If you think the battle was unbalanced, and your opponent refuses to play a mirror match with the same optional rules then yes, you were probably duped in the negotiation phase. If your opponent agrees to the mirror match, and defeats you again, set aside your personal pride and give him the credit he deserves. I guarantee that you will be a better person for it. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I just think it would be interesting for both players to have the exact same armies to battle in normal conditions, of varied terrain, possible poor weather, etc. Of course a generic, identical oob for both sides on an absolutely mirrored table-top could be interesting as well. (unfortunately, I can't make maps for this engine.) ![]() |

Isn't there a tournament scenario in the NRC game that has two evenly matched armies? |

Mr. President, what if I have no interest in being a better person? Can I just complain? Or, in the Austrian tradition, blame the Archduke Charles? |

Gentlemens, I think that it is impossible. In the game are too many modifiers. This setting would not be fun. Besides, the HPS and TalonSoft games are usually matched... |

Hugo, I agree that I personally would not really want to play a perfectly symmetrical game on a flat, barren landscape. Why, if I somehow managed to lose, what in the world could I fall back on as an excuse? Heavens to Murgatroid! That would be a bad situation to be in. Besides, we all know that every single scenario in the games is precisely balanced. Hey, any of you Frenchies want to play the Battle of Mons? I will be French! ![]() ![]() ![]() Just being facetious, guys. If you want to settle up man to man, you could certainly give it a shot. Al is very good at thinking outside the box. I just prefer a fine shrub to hide behind now and again. ![]() ![]() ![]() My dear Feldmarshall Pfluecke, of course you may complain. It is that dastardly Charles’ fault anyway. I personally prefer to whine. I learned it from a fine gamer in college named Mike Brewington. He was the consummate master. I can still hear him now, as soon as you launched your first attack on Brew, you would hear a high pitched, whiney voice say, “What are you picking on me for!” I have spared you thus far Jim, but when I start losing to all of those fine, French Guardsman you are wielding, get ready. The whine is coming and it won’t be pretty. I learned it from a pro. Covering your ears won’t help any either. The "Brew Whine" goes straight to the brain! With all of our advanced technology, mankind has still not created an effective defense for it. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

(empahsis mine) I NEVER SAID "FLAT BARREN PLAIN"... I said identical armies. I meant playing on one of our maps, with weather, whatever, etc. This would be for those who would like to see what it would be like to fight IG on IG, or having a powerful cavalry arm to face a powerful cavalry arm. So Hugo, blame Mark for suggesting boring, blech... hehehehe... I am suggesting something different. ![]() |

I have thought this one over and frankly it is better just to have two different armies but with the same values and so on. French vs. Russian, etc. While there are differences in the artillery it is insignificant. Thus battalions of 500 men each, morale of 4. etc. Light units with 5 morale 450 men. That kind of thing. Each side gets 24 squadrons of light cavalry and 16 squadrons of heavy cavalry. Should make for a real Trauma in Tulsa! (Ali never fought there probably but that is what I always thought the name of the bout would be ...) ![]() |
