I was curious if any members of this club have actually had the chance to meet your fellow wargamers in real life ? I know over at the ACWGC quite s bit of players have actually met and sometimes on the actual Battlefield. I do realize that a good portion of the players of the NWC live in Europe or elsewhere besides the United States. Just curious though |

I have forgotten the exact dates. Here are my experiences: Mike Gjerde back in late 90s or thereabouts - he was in the Los Angeles area visiting his mom for her birthday. We had a nice lunch at Sizzler. John Egan some time after that - drove to his home in a nearby town when I used to live in the LA area. Met up with a member of the Panzer club for breakfast in the Seattle area in 2007. Met up with Sam Orlando and his family at Universal City Walk when they were vacationing in Los Angeles (Sam's daughter had had cancer and a foundation gave them a full paid vacation and tons of amusment park passes). Met up with Art Ozols in the Phoenix area in 2002. Art is a neat guy and told me some great stories about his cooking experiences (he does super catering jobs and also helps restaurants prepare a new menu and what foods to order for the new meals). He went to the Philly area for a bit but he and his wife were not happy there so back to the Land of the Sun they went. And I hope to meet up with him again when I get down that way for a vacation. Saw a ton of guys at Tiller Con I & III. The JTS guys, Ken Miller, Mike Cox, Ken "Muddy" Jones, David Guegan, etc. That is the best place to go or on battlefield trips to meet our guys. Oh yes, must not leave out Phil Prete. Met him near the Saratoga battlefield and he took on in his car on a guided tour and for camera stops. Funny thing about that - the door lock on the right side door did not work so he had to get out and open my door for me! I think that the window was broken too so I could not open window and unlatch door on my own. Finally, I have lunch with Rod Murchison who lives to the north of Boise. I call him up and we arrange to meet at a place in his town. Love it up that way and its a great excuse to take a nice ride up into the mountains and see the streams and lovely countryside. Rod is a great guy and we always get off of gaming and talk about other interests. |

Many years ago when I still a member of the former first German Napoleonic Games Club, had been the member of Europe, each year we had a meeting over a long weekend. We met together at various battlefields and museums to visit. Of course there was the evening were many interesting talks and tells stories. At a meeting has been extensively discussed and voted on historical rules are as they should. We had more than one in Waterloo, Ligny, Quatre Bras, on the battlefields of Leipzig, in the gatehouse Markleeberg, and at the various monuments there, at Austerlitz on Mount Pratzen on the battlefields in Vienna, Aspern, Essling, Wagram, Jena and at the Göhrde. Of course we were also times in Paris and have visited the museums and the tomb. On the way to Paris we took a side trip to the battlefields of Verdun. I met Mike Ellwood while I was living in New Zealand in the late 90s. I met Sean Turner while he was living here in York. Hopefully I'll meet some more members some day. |

Martin - recall seeing those pages some years ago. I personally only met one person so far, Garret Fitzgerald, who was playing the blues at a place. He was an excellent blues player. We talked about some of our games and the members of the iNWC at the time. A bunch of people I guess live by me & Bill used to many years ago, so it is great to hear his stories when he emails me about them. Oddly enough my Dad did too, so it is interesting as well to hear my Dad's stories. |
