I have uploaded latest version of OOBEditorN (new version of the OOBEditor, for Napoleonic games only) here. It is also linked from the main page of NWC DOR.

I do this because the threads on this forum vanish and now it seems people forget about this application, even though it was first made public over a year ago. Some even still use the previous, old version of OOBEditor, which I wrote in 2001 :)

Enjoy the tool, while I consider extending it further by merging parts of another tool I wrote, that makes nice overview maps of scenarios and battles in progress.

At first I did not want to use this utility but now after having made too many OB file errors I plan on using this for either production or QC work. Thanks Dominik for the updates and help with future projects.

Dominik,

Excellent. I like the reports feature and being able to see the units.bmp image while editing the unit.

Only downside is no longer pretending I'm a programmer typing those Begin and Ends...

I'm happy you like it.

Would it be useful for you to have a report with a list of oob entries (leaders, units) with pictures? So you could see all unit pictures at a glance?

I'm not promising any deadlines, I'm just asking, as this is a feature I could add when I will find time for OOBEditorN, only if it seems useful to you.

Hi, Dominic!
I create scenarios for the R&H project.
Can I use your editor for to make this kind of OOB,
or it supports only the standard HPS one?

Post subject:  Re: OOBEditorN (latest is 1.1.5)

I see your OOB is in the default HPS Napoleonic games format, so you can use the OOBEditoN, provided you will alter one of the existing configuration files to match your weapon list (if it's different). Configuration files are plain text and they are thoroughly explained inside the editor when you press F2.

The full version of the editor (not available publicly) supports other formats of oobs (ACW, EA, M&P), but yours is standard as I see it.

Stay tuned, version 1.2.0 is in the works and it will support undo/redo besides many new user interface improvements and bug fixes. I hope to release it before 20th January.

Dominik,

Downloaded and tried it a bit. Looks very promising! You are doing great job!

Several questions:
Is it possible to have a report with units strength measured in natural units, men and guns, rather than values?
Is it possible to use different relative value of infantry/cavalry/arty?
Is it possible to see in the main window units and most importantly formations strength? Like it was done in the editor supplied with Panzer campaign series.

Post subject:  Re: OOBEditorN (latest is 1.2.0)

Version 1.2.0 is available for download. It will be soon followed by 1.2.1 with updated changelog and help, but I wanted to give you latest and greatest without too much wait.

major changes:
gui overhaul (internal and external)
undo/redo
press space to edit an entry (or use main menu, or use popup menu under right-click)

Post subject:  Re: OOBEditorN (latest is 1.2.1)

I'm happy you like the editor. Version 1.2.1 is up, it still has no fully fledged help.

Changes in version 1.2.1 (2012-01-22)
* Find results dialog is no longer modal, though it disappears after OOB is changed.
* Selected entry summary and definition (in bold) is shows at the bottom of the application window.
* Ability to set preferred look&feel (Nimbus, system, cross-platform).
* OOB entry is now selected before popup menu shows up.
* Change log and help (this is still not a fully featured help) updated for versions 1.2.0 and 1.2.1.
Changes in version 1.2.0 (2012-01-21)
* Undo/redo functionality for currently opened OOB.
* Application window size is preserved, if smaller than desktop size.
* Right click on entry now shows popup menu with all edit options.
* Ability to check if newer version is available (no auto-update though).
* External (icons, menu item location and order) and internal (actions) GUI overhaul.
* Nimbus look&feel is now used, instead of system look&feel.
* Font is no longer hard-coded to be "Lucida Sans Unicode", look&feel default font is now used.
* Dialog layout overhaul to better support Nimbus look&feel.
* Support for singular and plural form in HTML report (man-men, gun-guns, etc.).
* "Guns" used instead of "artillery" in HTML report for structures.
* Change log separated from help.
* Dialogs may now be closed by using Escape key.
* Edit action now shown in Edit menu with space key as shortcut.
* Fixed a bug with new supply wagons in version 1 OOBs having default size 300, instead of 6.
* Fixed a bug with dialogs not having focus after showing.
* Fixed a bug with dialogs not being properly centered, when the application is not maximized.
* Fixed a bug with selecting "Cancel" - in case of unsaved changes - would close the application, as if "No" would be selected.

Guys - under Help -> Style -> System you can set the look and feel to be what you like for your windows on your system. I prefer a blue to the default white that the program shows. MUCH appreciated, Dominik.

Would also like to do that for these forum posts too. Going to check and see if there is a setting for it.

Post subject:  Re: OOBEditorN (latest is 1.2.3)

* Added support for Campaign Bautzen 1.02
* Added support for Bonaparte's Peninsular War 1.00
* *Added support for Campaign Gettysburg 2.00
* *Added support for The War of 1812 1.08
* *Added support for The French And Indian War 1.04
* *Added support for Mexican-American War 1.02
* *Added support for The Seven Years War 1.00
* Fixed a bug with newly added ships named "New Leader"
* Updated for Java 8 (required)
Changes in version 1.2.2 (2012-05-04)
* Fixed a bug with generic error showing up instead of dedicated warning when too many "End" in loaded OOB
* Added support for Campaign 1814 1.00

I don't know if it will affect you much, but most of my games are HPS versions, except the JTS-only ones. This could have some effect if the format of unit/leader/3d icon files have different layout between these two.

The Anglo-Allied corpse sees no harm with a bit of necromancy.....

Thanks for the update. I'll have to check if it compatible with the JT versions.
