Guys - in order to help Mark Jones not have to police after us here is what I now do when I turn in an End Game form in the club database system:

1. I fill in and accept the report.
2. I copy the output on the screen to a new email message.
3. I send the email to my opponent reminding him to Confirm the end game form.
4. I cc Mark Jones on the message.

Here is the last one I just turned in:

Napoleonic Wargames Club

Battle

Proposed end (Minor Victory after 28 turns for Coalition side).
Battle details
ID S2011F0193
Game type Fight
Game Campaign Leipzig (HPS)
Scenario name 013. Großbeeren: Early French Arrival
Scenario file name 013_Grossbeeren_HTH.scn
Max turns 60
Registered by Bill Peters
Registered on 2011-12-06 01:52:20
Started on 2011-12-06 07:39:18
Status Awaiting player confirm to end
Proposed result Minor Victory after 28 turns for Coalition side
Details History
Playing Coalition side
Generallieutenant Bill Peters Confirmed
Playing French side
Lieutenant Olivier Bianchi Awaiting confirm

Doing this will remind your opponent to do his part in confirming end game forms and reduce Mark's work load.

Helga, a double shot of lemonade for my fine, considerate Prussian ally! :P :P :P

Bill's emails seem to be working very well in helping get his opponents to confirm the end game result. Now, I also happen to know that each of you receive an automatically generated reminder from the DoR System to do this as well. Many of you seem to just ignore them, moreso if you happened to lose the particular battle in question.

Unbeknownst to Bill ( I might have mentioned my intention to him actually), or really anyone else for that matter, I am on the verge of sending a club wide email to every officer in this club. It will clearly instruct you as to how to reset your DoR Password on your own, without any assistance. This seems to be the most common excuse...er, reason...that officers give me for not being able to properly register their games. In addition to the email, I am going to post the instructions in the forum as an Announcement so that the procedure will always be accessible to everyone. Now I do realize that some of you really do hate computers, and everything that goes with them, but you are playing complicated, Napoleonic simulations on your computer, so the argument of technical limitations does not really ring true to me. If you can execute a turn, and successfully send a BTE file, you can certainly register games in the DoR System. Just my perspective for whatever it is worth. Not even enough to buy a cup of coffee, I am sure.

Oh, there is one more small detail about the mass email that I will soon send. After explaining how you can reset your DoR Password without any need for assistance, I am going to request that each and every one of you log into the DoR System. You don't have to confirm a game or anything, you just have to successfully login. After a period of time, I am going to pull the DoR Administrative log and see exactly who has not logged in. You would be amazed at the number of 'active' officers who have never logged into the DoR System to register a game. Now remember, our DoR System has been in place going on two years now. Makes you wonder doesn't it? It does me.

Once I compile the list of officers that have not logged in per my request, I am going to present it to the respective Army Commanders and we are going to have a discussion as to why these officers are still listed as 'active' and have not been redesignated as 'reserves'. Maybe this is not the case for anyone, I will not actually know until this process is concluded. Either way, I do intend to find out.

does anyone think the system used in NWC DOR is somewhat more complicated than the one in place in ACWGC....or is just me.

Do not think of it as more complicated, just different.

Trust me when I tell you that the NWC Dor is far better than what we had before.

Of course that does not mean that ideas for improvements are not welcomed :D

Yes, just different. Once you get the hang of how it works it really isn't that complicated.

Our system is just a "do one line, accept it, do another line" where it comes to the New Game form. Always gets me no matter how many times I have done one.

That and if you start up a form but decide you do not want to use it the form is always the next one you use. Meaning that you have to change the data. Thus if you a form for Campaign Waterloo game but change your mind not to submit it then the same info is there from last time when you start up a new battle form.

Other than that it is not that hard. Finding the scenario is the most laborious task but here is a tip: copy the name of the scenario title right out of the area where it appears in the new scenario dialog and then paste it into the form. The correct scenario name in the database comes up every time. Or just type in a few of the characters of the first part of it.

It is like anything - takes some getting used to and then you are an old pro at it.

I agree.......but it should be easier from the get go.

especially when you already have a DOR in ACWGC that works effortlessly.......even for me.

We cannot acquire the DoR prog that the acwgc uses.

Please be specific about the issues you are having. It may be possible to tweak certain aspects of our DoR to address these concerns. I am quite familiar with the acwgc DoR and agree that the 2 are different but that does not always translate to better.

I like the system for the NWC. It's simple *if* we have the correct name of the scenario...

I have to admint that I am not personally familiar with the ACWGC's DoR as I am not a member of that club. I may contact their President to see if he can give me temporary access so that I can make a direct comparison.

I will say this though, Dominik Derwinski did the NWC a great service by creating our DoR System. I am sure there are things that could be improved upon, but as John says, we need to be as specific in our requests as possible. Dominik is a great guy and donates a lot of his personal time and expertise for our benefit. I am sure he would be willing to make improvements to our system, so long as they actually are beneficial improvements and not simply changes for individual preference.

I absolutely support you in this, Clint. I think we are all for continual improvement to make things better, and more enjoyable, for our members. Tell us what you would like to see, and we will discuss your suggestions with Dominik.
