For NRC how many of you would find a St. Petersburg Campaign interesting?
New maps, OBs, etc.
(and yes, Warren, you would not play it until the game is updated ....

For NRC how many of you would find a St. Petersburg Campaign interesting? New maps, OBs, etc. (and yes, Warren, you would not play it until the game is updated .... )

Bill, what do you mean? Hypothetical battle around St.Peterbourg? Or the campaign on Dvina by Wittgenstein that "saved" St.Peterbourg? The later imho is much more interesting than the former. Everything is available for that fine detailed maps, oobs, numerous descriptions. |

Here is the background: 1. I painted the X Corps - LGA as a kid. Loved the different nations represented. Poles, Westphalians, Bavarians and Prussians. The scenarios in the game did not have the entire corps fighting together so I first started by building an OB for them. BTW the OBs differ for this corps a tad. So I will have to look them over again. I was using Haithorthwaite's OB he had in "Armies of the Retreat From Moscow" which is an old standard for those of us that painted 1812 era French and Russian armies. 2. Then I remembered that Al Amos was building new maps for the EAW series and this not in an update. Found out that you could build maps for the games and they work. You just have to send the map file to John for the next update. 3. So I put two and two together and got .... 4. (hehe) How about a campaign where Napoleon diverts Davout and a couple of corps (+ a cav corps) to fight with the X Corps to drive on St. Pete? So no, this is not a battle around St. Pete. It is an entire campaign where you would have four battles or so (and maybe some "flow through branches where small skirmishes would be fought but which would not influence the path/course of the campaign) and the result would be that the Russians would abandon the city. (if someone thinks that it would be besieged let me know - I just do not see this ala WW2) St. Pete was the main port for the Russians. Really I have always thought that Napoleon should have made St. Pete the priority and just let the Russian army fall back to Moscow. I believe that he could have recruited from the Baltic states who were not on good terms with the Russians. Anton - I will contact you about the maps you reference. I always need good historical maps. |

This sounds like a lot of fun to me. I vote YES! One could say that Bagration in the south escaped the initial French advance more quickly due to Jerome's inept command, compelling Napoleon to direct Davout north to coordinate with Oudinot. You might even have a scenario where Barclay's army moves north to help Wittgenstein. Yes, lots of fun indeed. |

I have a "Razyn" scenario for Eckmuhl to post. I just have to locate where all the woods go. This will be my first venture into posting maps apart from an update. The map then would have to be part of the next (Eckmuhl) update for it to work under subsequent updates. That one has to be finished first. The St. Pete campaign won't come out until I finish off all three games I have in progress so do not look for this to be out soon. Also I would like someone to at least try out the scenarios with me. Or a small team to play it first. |

Hi, Bill! I work now with R&H scenarios for NRC (200th anniversary of the Patriotic War of Russia in 1812!). Recently, I've done two of them for the "Northern" front: Vil'komir and Yakubovo-Klyastitsy. So, the best OOBs I have found in George F. Nafziger's "Napoleon's Invasion of Russia". There are OOBs: of the Russian 1st Corps for the 10th and 30th June, 18th July, 4th October 1812 - with all regiments' strength, and for the 2nd, 10th and 14th August - without it; and OOB of the 1st Corps after joined by the Finland Corps (GL Steingell) on the 28th October. of the French IInd Corps for the 1st-4th June; 15th August; 15th September; of the Bavarian VIth Corps for the 25th June; 15th and 29th August; 15th September; of the Prussian Xth Corps for the 15th May, 15th August; 15th September; All with regimental strength.
