The night was rent with the sounds of men crashing through the underbrush. The Black Menace was hunting down some French chasseurs who had strayed from their columns. Sounds of desperate calls in French. "Pierre!" "Over here!" "Come quickly!" "I'm trying" The clash of steel soon followed. The 1 Leib Hussars had found their prey! "Surrender or die!" "Quarter! Quarter!" The sound of over one hundred sabers falling to the ground in a pile could be heard in the woods. "Gather them all up and take them to headquarters. Be quick about it. More of them are probably lurking about. Lost children looking for their father!" The sound of horses racing in the night as more French cavalry came into sight. Hussars! But these were fresh recruits sent to fill out Le Tondu's mad plan to keep Germany. The result was swift. More prisoners for the march back to Berlin. "Get them moving. No delay. Lets get this herd of cattle off to the pens." A miserable night for one trooper in particular. Claude Leclerc had thought that his time for duty to France (he was only 16) would be filled with glory and honor riding with the 1st Hussars. Not the indiginity of a capture on a pitch black rainy night! The men were split up into groups of 20 and put in separate areas of confinement. For them the Black Menace had put an end to their part in the war. |

And 16 year old Claude Leclerc awakens and is relieved to find it was only a dream, and he knows like everyone in Europe knows the Prussians are afraid of the dark! and they melt in the rain, oh that was another dream! |
