Hello, Just a post to tell those interested in the paintings on the Ier Empire's period... and who have the possibility to visit Versailles, that the paintings of general Lejeune are exposed in the "chateau de Versailles" until May 13th. General Lejeune (1775-1848) took part in most of the revolutionary and empire campaign from Valmy to Saxony (1813). Both a soldier and an artist, he has been one of Berthier's aides de camp from 1800 to 1810, was Davout's chief of staff in Russia in 1812, then Oudinot's chief of staff in 1813. Wounded in Hanau, he was evacuated to France. He resumed his military career after the Restauration. He painted many battles... Aboukir, Pyramids, Mount Thabor, Lodi, Marengo, Austerlitz, Somosierra, Saragosse, Moskowa-Borodino... This exhibition is definitely worth the visit for the fans of the napoleonic saga. I love his paintings. They had a nice soft quality to them that contrasts with some other styles. The colors in his skies for instance are very nice. Thanks for the link! |
