I bought this book several months back. A fine book on the battle. Yes, its in Italian. Enrico Acerbi has done a stellar job of putting together a set of webpages on Italian battles for 1799 and he and I have exhanged emails about the Nap Wars. Nice fellow and he and Arnaldo Liberati did a fine job on Mincio 1814. Very detailed OBs, decent maps (done in Enrico's style) and once I do some translation work I will get to know the text better. If you like to read something other than Waterloo, the Peninsular or how good Wellington was this may be what you are looking for. The folks in Italy sent it to me for no shipping cost. The book is paperback with a nice glossy cover. Cost me about 28 USD. Well worth the price. OB is more authoritative than what Nafziger put in his "The Defense of the Italian Kingdom" book. For those that do not know much about this battle it pitted the Austrians under Bellegarde against Eugene. Both sought to cross the Mincio and defeat each other's army. Eugene lost only by a close margin. Had one division followed orders history would be writing that the Austrian army was cut up and sent packing to the north in different directions (along Lake Garda). This battle is rarely simulated as for miniatures you would need a very large table. 6mm scale would work ... 15mm would be pushing it on a 12x6 table. |
