Post subject:  HPS games and windows 7 problems

Gentlemen,

I have installed some HPS games (Waterloo & Eckmuhl) on a new Windows 7 computer and seems to have several problems.

This message is to see what others are experiencing in the NWC. After that we could perhaps write a combined comment to HPS to solve these problems.

This is what I experience in both of my installed games:

1. Game is installed and running but when clicking on a hex other parts of the screen will turn to white only. This is completely random. Sometimes only 10 or so other hexes turn white, sometimes the whole screen.

2. In seems that sometimes (also random) my opponents have problems to see the replay in a proper way, giving all kind of error messages.

Let me know if you have similar errors..

greetings,

I have 2 computers with Window 7 (64 bits) installed on. For both of them I use the same anti-virus and the same installation path.

On my desktop computer I get what you describe in 1) random white patches only on the games that haven't been updated (Waterloo for example), I don't have any problem either with the newer JTS games (download).
On my laptop I don't have any problem! I would guess it comes from my computer (maybe directX) but I haven't been able to fix the problem.

Just curious guys - did you use the DEFAULT installation path or did you pick a new directory location. The default path for HPS products will not work for Vista or Win7.

If you did pick another path then yes, its something that should be addressed to the HPS Support folks (Rich H).

But check this out first and see if you in fact took the default C:\Program Files\HPS Simulations path.

Ok - send something to HPS then. I am not sure which format Rich H. would prefer - a Group email with everyone cc'd or individual emails - group might work. Just cc all of the folks on the request.

It is a Nvidia graphics card issue. Had problems with EAW/ACW/Nap series for over a year. HPS knows. Tap (scroll) your mouse and it returns. Very annoying. Possible fix is to roll drivers back, but I don't want to fidget that much.

I would think also that it's related to the video card, but weirdly I don't get the problem with the newer JTS game Leipzig.

Hi my friends, Yes I also installed the game in an other path. Besides that I was told to start up the game like this:

"Go to your Waterloo main folder
click on the right with the mouse
Then properties
Then Compatibility - Choose on compatibility mode Windows XP service pack 3"

I did this and the white flashes seems a bit less, but they are still there.

More tips? Otherwise I will send something to HPS.

Hi Al,

I was looking at my computer and guess what? An NVIDIA card as well.

So that might be the problem indeed. More people with the same card??
