A Hanoverian Colonel rises from his familiar table and walks up to the tavern bar. He calmly fills a shot glass full of Jager before turning back to face the assembled patrons who were present this day. “May I have your attention for a brief moment, gentlemen”, he says as he raises the shot glass in the air. “I have been extremely fortunate on the fields of battle as have each and every one of you who revels in this tavern, limbs intact, and still breathing.” A grizzled old veteran chuckles under his breath and mutters, “You got that right!” A young Lieutenant gets a strange look on his face as if considering new dangers that were not thoroughly thought out before signing his enlistment papers. “Today, I would like you to all raise your glasses and share a drink with me to the finest warriors in our midst. Officers who are not often enough recognized for their skill, prowess, and achievements. Today let us drink a toast to the greatest warriors in our armies that we all hope to emulate. To the Guardsmen of all nations, who despite their various uniforms deserve the respect of all!” To the cheers of the audience, the Colonel downs his shot in one gulp, followed by the many patrons of the establishment. Turning back to the bar, his eyes meet the lovely gaze of the beautiful bar maid. “Helga, from now on”, says the Colonel, “should you ever encounter a Guardsman who is down on his luck for the moment, put his drinks on my tab, regardless of the uniform that he wears. It would not do for any Guardsman to ever suffer thirst while I have even a single farthing left to my name.” |

This Lieutenant of Light Infantry is proud to stand with Colonel Jones and all others, in toasting the brave Guardsmen, truly the eternal champions of the battle boards. He raises his glass of wine high, "Here! Here! Salute!" |

Cliff, why do you think 1813 is the 'worst game ever'? I actually think it is the best one of the entire series as it includes many improvements to the game engine that obviate the need for several of the House Rules commonly in use. |

I'll raise a few pints to my fellows, be they of the Garde or of the guards. ![]() Cheers! And, Mark, the problem with the Leipzig title is that it is based on the assumption that the French lost in Russia in some fictitious alternate reality. Since such a thing could never happen, the OOB is missing some cavalry, quality units and numbers, as well as making the assumption that the invncible Grande Armee would somehow lose the support of or allow such diminuitive nations as Austria or Prussia to take up arms against la Patrie. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Yes I will raise my glass to the guards of all the armies! And yes I must agree with Marechal Bardon after all we are at peace with Russia after Tilsit and only Austria has ventured into the field against us this year of our lord 1809. I must say though the speculative work of General Peters is an excellent piece. Now LT Peccolo it would seem you attire is rather dow even for a Hanoverian. Should you ever make it to Paris either as a prisoner or if you indeed see fit to join the only just cause I can give you the details of an excellent couple of tailors. ![]() |

The problem with the new game is that the French do not like it when they do not have all the advantages going for them.... ![]() |

Glad to hear it Colin. Having play tested it I do think it is more difficult for the French to win but then I have always feelt it was more difficult for the Allies to win J-A, NRC, and the 1809 games. |
