Post subject:  Scenario Designer's Note - Fixed Units and Reinforcements

Guys - in the old days you had to note any units on the map initially as Fixed if you didn't want them to move on the first turn. Release times would then follow to release the unit.

Now you can use the "Add Release" option under the Units menu in the Scenario Editor and then check the "FIXES Unit" option and pick the formation you want to FIX on that turn. So you can fix an entire side at the beginning of the game if you like but just clicking on the highest level of its ORG. Or you can just fixed a formation if you like.

Now the question may come, "Well what if you fix the entire side but that side has reinforcements coming on? Do the reinforcements gets fixed too?"

No, they do not. They enter the map as Unfixed units which can move right away from their entrance hex to adjacent hexes.

Good to know.

The "FIX all" formula saves a lot of "Fixing" of units as you lay out the units. Its handy and allows you to spend more time on other things. Just remember to add in releases for the army and especially an "all army" release at one time or another during the scenario.

Second question: "Ok Bill, so you can have all units fixed on turn 1 simply by adding in a "FIXES Unit" Release for the entire army at the beginning of the game. What if you want to release a unit on the first turn so it can move? If I enter in a Release for say the French II Corps at Leipzig will it be released or Fixed?

It will be released. So if you enter in a FIX on the entire French army BUT add in a release for the II Corps then the II Corps will release on Turn 1.

This is good to have as units may be entering the map and it would be a "bummer" if those units could not release on the first turn so that they could continue to move on the map.

Some folks hate Fixed units but I find them useful for situations where entire formations did not take part in the battle but should be on the map. You can give them an eventual release time for a later turn just to keep the other player honest.
