Post subject:  The Battle of Paris

There was some discussion awhile back on the fall of Paris and its impact on the campaign of 1814. While I am not here to discuss that there is no doubt that with Paris falling the war was going to end. I believe that Napoleon couldn't have survived WITH Paris either. His army was being ground down at a great rate and his planned "levy en masse" had no logistical way of actually succeeding. So whether the fall of Paris caused the end of the war or not is moot: Napoleon's army was a group of hungry, tired men, still bent on fighting (with far more spirit than the Marechals) who were being run to ground.

What I am here to discuss is something I found out after I had finished up the PDF on the Battle of Paris scenario. There is a rule that says that the Army of Silesia cannot cross over the Ourcq Canal to assist the Hauptarmee. Historically, of course, this is not true. The Prussians actually were ordered to cross the canal and assist the Hauptarmee. It was the Russians who captured Montmartre with other Prussian forces crossing the canal at another point to attack the French to the right of that massive hill.

My rule was put in to limit the Allies as to where they could deploy. The French have similar rules. The Left Wing under Mortier can assist the Right Wing under Marmont up until noon and then must be a retreat to the other side to defend Montmartre. This was done to stop the French player from immediately ganging up on the Russians of the Hauptarmee. And the rule to limit the deployment of the Army of Silesia was done for the same reason.

So just a word of explanation into the design process. The players can toss out my rules and come up with their own if they like, just like with a board game, and determine the outcome in a different manner (I thought at one time of adding US forces .... ).

Yes! A US Corps marches in from the northwest after having landed at Brest. Runs the British blockade during a heavy fog. Yes, a CORPS!! LOL

Ok that impossible. But its what-if.

I would just need to have the graphics for it and I would put together a customer Units.bmp file. Someone else would have to do the 3D work ....
