I was wondering if the club could handle a monthly newsletter?

A list of current registered ongoing battles as well as info on current and future tournments
and new graduates from the different armies amongst other info like new releases and patches
could really add luster to the NWC

So what say you gentlemen?

The last I remember was that Scott Ludwig was going to put out a regular newsletter. The club had one many years ago, but has not had one since I joined in the last two years. The Army Commanders are also supposed to post individual Army Reports on a regular basis, but that does not happen either.

All of the things you mentioned, with the exception of a regular list of current registered ongoing battles, has been regularly handled by posts in the Rhine Tavern. Well, I should probably rephrase that. Every time an officer in the Anglo-Allied Army is officially credited with a commission, promotion, or award, an announcement is posted in the Rhine Tavern by his commanding officer for everyone to read. Every time a new game is released, or a new update is available, Bill Peters announces it in the Rhine Tavern. The only tournament ongoing in the club at present is the 2011 SON Tournament which has a link on the NWC Home Page as well as a perpetual thread in the Rhine Tavern to which you have also posted. The only tournament planned at present is the Leipzig based 2012 SON Tournament that will start in September. There is also a perpetual thread posted for this event in the Rhine Tavern. As I perform an extensive amount of work in our DoR System, I can assure you that a list of current registered ongoing battles would be very misleading. There is an extreme amount of 'junk' in the system where officers registered games that are not actually being played. Any such list that we could put together would not be accurate.

There is a lot of work involved in a monthly newsletter, so it would need to be something that the majority of the members wanted to have. So how about it fellows? How many of you would like to see the club distribute a monthly news letter?

ImageThe old newsletter was personally handled and it tacks time and effort. I for one would love to see it for my story ran in it a long time. Is that not the Mexican Republic Flag????

Takes dedicated people to do this.

Do not get me wrong, this is a good idea but you nead the particiation of all the armies and a team wiling to coordinate this.

I am no longer interested in doing this, someone else can do it....

As a former editor of the NWC Newsletter I wholly support the idea, but it takes a tremendous amount of time and effort to produce a good one. I would not recommend it given the state of things. If someone would want to take on such a project then they should aim for a semi-annual report at best.

You can always enjoy the Newsletter archives.

I wholeheartedly agree with Sir Muddy, given the state of things.

Thanks for your very kind words, Fernando. It is the greatest reward to see enthusiastic young officers, such as you, join our ranks. The goal at the end of the day is for the members to have fun and enjoy their experience here. :D :D :D

Cinco de Mayo, yes I do seem to have heard of that one.

Of course, my kinfolk were a tad busy at the time trying to repel the invasion of the Northern Aggressors…

The once was an man named Nappy B three,
Who sent Lorencez out west by the sea.
A battle ensued which all thought he would win,
so confident France would resurge once again.
He attacked at Puebla, with all of his men,
but instead of prevailing, France was defeated again. 8) 8) 8)

When the people of France over through their corrupt king and his cronies the English King and Prime Minister declared war on the French people! And the rest of the European titled privileged class all joined in! And Napoleon was supported by his people for most of his reign, while he was no saint to say the least. Your insults to the Napoleon fall short of the truth.

Hey John Corbin! It takes Army CinCs to answer the request for information too!

When I offered to run the newsletter about a year and a half ago I got input from ONE CinC. Will not name him as I do not want to embarrass the rest.

A MONTHLY newsletter is impossible. I would say we would be doing well if we could get ONE out every six months.

I would go to sleep if all it turned out to be was a list of promotions, decorations, etc. What made the newsletter exciting was the articles. Bill Peterson did a nice one on his trip to Bavaria. Others offered up tactical advice. Humorous antidotes from others as well.

We have a lot of hot wind blowing on the forum so I imagine that we might NOW have folks that could contribute.

I attribute the resurrection of the forum to two people: Mark Jones and Scott Ludwig. Without them this forum would be like it had become - just a place where promotions were announced and the odd thread was posted. We NOW have a lively forum again and this is a GOOD thing. It might spill over to folks wanting again to add in new material for a newsletter.

The Russians, Spanish and Swedes in particular may be good sources of historical articles. Lots of good info from them. Anton K. was telling us today that the headgear that the Russian grenadiers wore at Austerlitz was actually the older style helmet. This based on archeological digs.

I say bring back the newsletter. I felt bad that we could not get it going when I was highly interested in putting it together.

For me this is a new period in the club's history. There is a new breed here that is fun to converse with. VERY similar to the days of old.

Monsieur when insult become personal you play into the Devil's hand! If we stay in the Napoleonic era and not try to bring our own personal thoughts into this we would have no bar fights or people going off to other places to get their personal view across this is a Napoleonic war game club true.

Guys - can we keep the comments "on topic?" Thanks much. Let's keep strong personal viewpoints on Napoleon out of it. Perish the thought that Digby Smith will rear his ugly head and join in on the "Anti-Ogre" side.
