Wanted to start playing these again but i have a problem i cannot get answered elsewhere so i thought i would ask here. I installed Waterloo, Jena and Eckmuhl on my new machine. Using a 30" screen and 2560 x 1600 resolution. Windows 7, graphics card is dual geforce mx 580. Quad core processor. Games load just fine but when i click on the map I get large white areas covering the bottom half. If i scroll they go away? They move when i click on the map to different points and sometimes cover half the map, but it happens every time no matter what resolution i try or graphics settings i use. Games are patched and installed according to HPS website (not in programs file) Because of this i cannot play any of them. Has anyone in this club had this issue and how did you fix it. The latest titles from John Tiller Games, Leipzig and Campaign 1814 don't have this problem. |

Ken, When you get setup again shoot me an email at eric2900@aol.com I'll get you back up & running in the Prussian Armee. I literally just removed you from the listing last month. -Scott |

Ken, We all are having this problem. There are fixes in store for the series, we just have to wait for our series to get updated. Hopefully, this year. This goes for the EAW and ACW series as well. Just move the mouse or do a double click and it temporarialy goes away. It's annoying, but the games play okay, just becareful not to move into the "white fog". hehehehe... |

Thanks, Al. I have a buddy with an absolutely awesome computer that has, I think, a similar problem with the Waterloo game he installed. I will pass this thread along to him as well. Maybe he will want to get one of the newer titles if they don't have this problem. |

You must be getting a VERY large screen area. I remember the first time I opened up the games on my 22 inch monitor. All I could say was "Wow!" I could suggest a few things: 1. Reduce the graphics acceleration. Sometimes folks have it set to the highest level. This can eat up video RAM and leave little else for the large sized 3D files that are loaded when you start up your game. 2. Try using a lower resolution. 3. Make sure you have the latest video drivers. Yes, there is an issue with the NVidia drivers and the JTS games. Especially for games like Leipzig or REN which used large graphics files. The newer Main Program files now use CGI - John went away from DirectX (as from what he said Microsoft no longer supports it) and this is what is causing the slowness of the Main Program when you go to move units or launch scenarios. The first time I noted this was with the 1914 WW1 game that he put out around the time of Tiller Con 3. Those scenarios take a long time to launch. I have a AMD Quad Core CPU which is very fast but the newer Main Programs do run slower. And all of the updates to the games will turn out doing the same thing. Settings for #1 and #2 are found in the video display properties OR you may have a special control panel dialog that you need to use for your video card. |

Hey Bill, long time sir. No graphic acceleration on windows 7 so that's a no go. Tried using a lower resolution, again no joy. Have the video driver just released on 5/27 so it shouldn't be the driver. The releases from John Tiller have not had this problem so I am really unsure what else to do until the stuff is updated |

Ken, I just tried changing from 32-bit true color to 16-bit high color. Seems to be working. |

Ken - have you emailed Rich Hamilton about this? If so what was his advice? |

I have often mentioned to Rich that a tech support page that answers the most common problems he hears about would save him a lot of time. Not that every solution is going to work but there ARE common solutions that do work for all systems. I am glad that we have finally gotten to the point where the recent games (and updates) are auto deleting the dreaded temp files after the file is closed/saved which for years would absolutely ruin a game if you did not delete them manually. But a Tech Support/FAQ page would save Rich on answering many of the same questions over and over again. I plan on putting up a page that answers the known issues of a particular title I have worked on. Such as if a scenario does not have ammo or a bridge strength is too low. I will do these once the next set up updates is released. Sort of starting with a clean slate. |

Like I said - it has nothing to do with HPS or when John went to publishing on his own. It has to do with him having to drop back to the old CGI graphics format due to Microsoft dropping their support for DirectX. Nothing he could do about it. ALL of his games will get updated in this fashion. They will be slightly slower to play and you may run into this again with an HPS product that John released through them. |
