I remember with fondness the days of Talonsoft Age of Sail I. Many a night I spent trying to dismast BG Schleuter's ships.

There is a nice game out that is called Salvo! which I played with one of our club members. The ships move by plot - its PBEM. Thus it is turn based!

Would be fun to have it added to the club game inventory. I do remember that the ships needed to be relatively close as if they were far away it took forever to get them to close.

To Marshalls Blackburn and Nelms, my sincere compliments on you humor, sirs! Very funny indeed.

To General Peters, the name Salvo seems familiar to me, but I do not think I have ever participated in PBEM Naval Combat. I do remember the time when I was the Captain of a French frigate, trailing our line and being pursued by four British SOLs. It was my duty to buy enough time for the three French SOLs in our van to turn and form a line of battle. The wind was against us, as of course it would be. Nevertheless, I turned to engage and procure the necessary delay. My three French bretheren could not master their helms and, in the end, decided that the better part of valor was to simply flee the engagement. Needless to say, the day did not end well for my lone frigate. I had to swim back to Brest utilizing flotsam as best I could.

I concurr with Bill Peters-
Also have very fond memories of playing Talonsofts Age Of Sail.

A naval PBEM game would be a fine addition to NWC catalogue.

Where can Salvo! be donwloaded Bill?

Here is a link to Salvo, the patch added PBEM capability which Bill and I played. That was several years ago and it does not look like they have done much with it since then.

I thought that that was you I played, Ed. The game was too slow for single ship encounters but fine if you wanted to play a squadron sized game as it did not rush you with your moves, being a PBEM game.

I much prefer plot naval games vs. real time madness. With real time you are forced to find opponents over the internet and the good old latency issues creep in.

I agree, a naval game would be a great addition to the club. As an owner of Salvo! i'm not sure that game is really suitable though. but i'm not very good at it .

Yes please submit a report.

Does it have the Dutch republic and the Baltic states' navies?

I have this already, it either failed to impress me or I couldn't get the hang of it. It also looks like a RT game to me.
