The courier from the semaphore station enters the tavern, with the latest dispatches from the battle fronts of Europa. "The great battle has begun!" he declares loudly to the room at large. "Here is a drink, sir," Helga says while setting a tankard of ale before him. "What battle is this?" "The Combined Russian Armies have stopped their desperate withdrawal before the advancing forces of L'Empereur, at the town of Gzhatsk (several days march west of Borodino). "The Russian armies are being led by the renowned Field Marshall, Sir Muddy Jones, and the honorable Brigadier Jones of the Hanoverian Brigade. "The eagles of L'Empereur are being led by Lt Col Al Kling and Chef de Battalion Schmidgall. "This battle promises to be most interesting, indeed, and the station will keep the dispatches coming." "Thank you sir," Helga says to him, as she turns away, wondering at the fates of all these men, whom she knows so well. |

Isn't it east of Borodino? Good luck sirs. Don't let faulty geography and the fact you are playing two great captains put you off however ![]() |

Good sir, Gzhatsk is west of Borodino, as it was the first location selected by Prince Kutuzov to fight the French army (historically...), but he changed his mind (that crafty Tartar), and withdrew to Borodino which lay closer on the road to Moscow. Gzhatsk.......Borodino.......What's really in a name anyway? ![]() ![]() ![]() I suppose the French probably do need to know, though. Their historians will want to note the high water mark of their delusional incursion, and also where to visit their dead army when this battle finally ends. ![]() ![]() ![]() Did I hear someone mention "Vodka Wagons". Ooooh, I'll bet a Russian army of this size has lots of Vodka wagons.... ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I hope the Brigadier does not fall on any broken vodka bottles, the glass would be hard on his bottom and it would be difficult to sit on his little pony. Battle On |

Sir Muddy and I cannot do that, Cliff. It would negate the Fog of War. Now if the French players want to do so......... |

Aw shucks, and I thought for a moment there that the Cheval artillery-man had figured out a way to bamboozal the Russian command. Regards, |

Is there a problem looking at the game, there's no rule in the club about that? |

Field Marshal and Brigadier Salute, Sept 2, 1812 0545 hrs It is a beautiful morning and from the looks of things it is great day for Russian Soldiers to die or wander off drunk from all that vodka drowning in all these nice streams. The Emperor Napoleon is coming to free your people from the Czars Tierney. Your armies may not be retreating, but they are not moving forward, just fire their cannon making noise and hiding in their holes. And lest you forget this time the Emperor has brought his Dragons with him! Battle On, |
