Happy Jena/Auerstadt Day?  What's so freakin' happy about that?  Besides, it was not on this date that the Prussian army was destroyed, it was in the relentless pursuit that followed.

As a precaution, I had all of the cutlery removed from Scott Ludwig's house last night. I am sure that he thinks he has been robbed, but it will be returned tomorrow. Better safe than sorry.

I hadn't even noticed, I was too excited getting ready for two days from now when we re-pay the French wholescale with the giant a$$kicking called Leipzig! Where I do believe Napoleon ran from and left his best Marshal's to die, won't be the first time, won't be the last. By the way, this man led men into battle personally, what did lil Ol' Boney do but run!?!  Gott mit Uns! Für Gott und Vaterland! Hmm, I seem to recall very heroic accounts of the Battle of Lutzen, where it is said L'Empereur most bravely rallied the troops and led them back to the firing line.  Of course, being an emperor as compared to a general, one might wonder at the wisdom of that. Nor, did he ever believe he was giving birth to an elephant during the course of fighting.  Regards, |

My dear Colonel please allow me to correct you - it was 100 elephants. And thanks Al for the joyous reminder of the rout of the Prussians. I must say I do actually respect the elephant man though. He was a real fire eater, probably Napoleon's greatest opponent. (Wellington was over rated IMHO) Now a nice little pic for everyone's visual edification  By god this man did war honour Oh also I nearly forgot my favourite period image  I wonder what became of these poor inflated fellows

If Ney had followed orders at Lutzen or even Bautzen - there never would have been a Leipzig and the Spring of 1813 would have been a repeat of 1806 / 1807 for the Prussians and Russians (IMHO) without the Elyau experience. Austria would have never then dared to enter the war on the side of the Prussians and Russians - Unfortunately Ney demonstrated why he should have never been given independent command - but kept close to the Emperor so he could act with direct instruction once the Battle had commenced - Where was Davout when Napoleon needed him ? I guess the reality was that Napoleon's regime was on the rocks after the 1812 debacle so he wanted no doubt in anyone's mind who was responsible for the anticipated upcoming victories over the allies ( him and him alone) . thus he went to war with the Marschal's least suited to be independent commanders ( Macdonald, Ney and Oudinot) All fine soldiers but none ever meant to have independent command where they were expected to operate without the guideance of Napoleon, ( Again - IMHO). Ney proved this again at Dennowitz and Macdonald at Katzbach and Oudinot at Grossbeeren Thus I beleive it was Ney who cost the Emperor his crown - not the Prussian Army |
