Although I am very proactive in approving completed games for our DoR System, I must rely on each of you to be conscientious in registering and confirming your games as well. I check for games that have Confirmed End Game Results several times each day, but I do not regularly wade through the huge mass of games that are Waiting to Confirm Start, are In Progress, or are still awaiting the Confirmation of the End Game Result. Quite frankly, all games in those categories are the player's responsibility to maintain. I got a bit of free time tonight, which is relatively rare for me, and took a look at the current state of the games in our DoR System. This is a summary of what I discovered: Awaiting Confirm Start - 16 Games Dating Back to August 21, 2011 Games in Progress - 169 Games Dating Back to May 1, 2010 Confirm End Result - 19 Games Dating Back to May 3, 2010 Awaiting Moderator Confirmation - 0 Games What I see here is a little hard to believe. It should not take two years to confirm the start of a game, three years to play a scenario, and certainly not over three years to confirm that the game has actually ended. I need your help fellows. There is no way that I am going to send all players personal emails requesting that you resolve your games that are lurking in our DoR System. Some of these are legitimate and current, but there are a great many where the player's have just walked away from their responsibilities to our club records. I would ask each of you to review all of your games in these three categories and bring them up to current. Contact your opponents as needed, and let me know if you do not receive a response. That will happen is many cases, as your opponents have gone onto interests other than our club. If you run into a situation where you need me to perform some action as the DoR Moderator, just send me an email at mark(dot)jones(at)neel-schaffer(dot)com. I will be very glad to help anyone who is in turn helping me to clear this massive backlog. Thanks, guys. |

Maybe there should be a time limit and then they get deleted? |

That would probably work for Conformation of the Start of a game. We could easily confirm whatever End Game Result was entered according to what the active player had entered as well based on a time limit. I don't think we can easily apply that principle to Games in Progress, however, due to the great variation of scenario lengths. In any case, all of these require a much higher level of effort by our administrative staff which would be unnecessary were every officer conscientiously performing his duty relative to our DoR System. These game registrations directly affect everyone's battle records. Properly registering them is important. |

Well, it has been nearly a month since I made my initial post, and I have had very little response to my request. Of the 16 games that had not been confirmed as started when I originally posted, the status of 13 of them remains unchanged. My sincere thanks to the three officers that did confirm the start of their games. As for the remaining 13 games, I will now delete them from our system. In the future, I will regularly check these entries and delete anything lingering longer than two weeks. I deem that more than sufficient time for an officer to confirm the start of his game after his opponent registers the battle in the DoR System. Of the 19 games that were awaiting an officer's confirmation of the End Game Result, none have been subsequently confirmed. In most cases it is the losing officer that has failed to confirm the end of the battle. This is extremely unfair to the officer who actually won the contest, and will not continue into the future. At the present time, I am going to confirm all End Game Results that are thirty days old or older in accordance with the existing entries in the DoR System. Any officer that feels the entered result for his battle is unfair, may plead his case to me for an adjustment of the outcome. Any officer seeking such an adjustment will need to be prepared to clearly explain to me why he failed to either confirm the End Game Result as entered, or make his petition in a more timely manner. As previously stated, some of these games date back to more than three years ago. Our club operates on a records system. It is the responsibility of every officer to diligently perform their duties in regard to our record keeping. For those of you who are seemingly not willing to respectfully perform these duties in consideration of your fellow officers, no worries. In the future, I am going to do that for you as outlined above. If you are having trouble with the DoR System, please refer to the manual I created for its use which is posted as a permanent announcement here in the Rhine Tavern. If you are still having problems, send me an email. I will be very glad to help. |
