What better way to celebrate these historic Napoleonic battles than by purchasing a copy of the excellent Leipzig Campaign game from John Tiller Software. This was the game engine used to create all the scenarios in our recent club SON-2012 Tournament. Here are some of the major battle anniversaries

Lutzen - May 02
Bautzen - May 20-21
Grossbeeren - August 23
Katzbach - August 26
Dresden - August 26-27
Dennewitz - Sept 8
Liebertwolkwitz - Oct 14th (the largest Cavalry battle of the period)
Leipzig - Oct 16-19

Do not forget Campaign Bautzen, the second day of which was fought 200 years ago today and, I think was the largest battle in European history at that date.. For years, after suffering horrible defeats in 1809, 1812, and 1815 games at the hands of the glorious French cavalry, I said wait for Lutzen and Bautzen, just you wait and see how you French players do with less cavalry...Well, I am 51 turns into one Lutzen and 20 into another and the French do have a cavalry problem...but, of course, the Coalition has a serious weakness of infantry...

Great idea to purchase the Leipzig and Bautzen from JTS, but in my case I already have them and for now I am looking forward to the next title in the works.

I really do not know for sure, but I am hoping to see something on the early Italian Campaigns...

Don't worry Jim Jena was a good precursor to the Bautzen cavalry shortage phenomena. Its a most fascinating battle I have been studying now that I have the game. It reminds me of Jena - Auerstedt. The allieds have loads of cavarly but short of infantry. The French for their part have a pretty massive amount of crappy infantry (unlike 1806). They do have a supply of high quality cavalry though.

I will have to find an officer for this one in due course.

A further comment on Bautzen - its most unfortunate the cavalry stacking is now inconsistent over the two 1813 titles. In Bautzen its limited by a 3x multiplier and in Leipzig 2x, perhaps I have missed something but it seems to be the case. Maybe i need to patch it.

So 900 cavalry in one stack in Leipzig and 600 in Bautzen. 1814 used the Leipzig setting.

I personally prefer the 2x as it makes cavalry the deadly force they should be against unsquared infantry. I guess I should not complain though as the French player who is short of Cav.
