Please welcome

Mr. James Whitehead

who will serve in 3rd Battalion, 1st KGL Brigade, 2nd UK Infantry Div., II Corps

The noise was flooding out of the tavern as the two men opened the door; noise of lots of talking, laughter, music and glasses clashing at each other. The men were dressed in uniforms of the King´s German Legion, an officer and a young ensign.
The elder man walked to the bar, followed by the ensign. He took an empty glass and bumped it on the bar three times.

As the noise got lower he said: “Gentlemen, please allow me to introduce a new ensign, who has joined the King´s German Legion. We are proud to welcome Mr. James “Jim” Whitehead who will serve in our division.
This young man, who already knows what courage is, will soon learn what fear is – as he will read it in the eyes of the French when they stand face to face with him. This young man who already knows what discipline is, will soon learn what panic and disorder do to a unit – when he will see the French lines breaking as our columns coming closer. This young man, who already knows what …”

With a side view the officer caught a look of Major General Mark Jones, the commander of the Hanoverian brigade. A look clearly indicating the upcoming storm, as the commander was sitting at his table with an empty glass on it.

“… well, enough of words. Helga, please be so kind and make sure everyone gets his drink so we can raise our glasses to welcome the new ensign.”
Then he turned to the young man beside him: “This evening the drinks are on you, Mr. Whitehead.
Gentlemen, for King and Country!” shouting the last words the officer raised his glass while the noise in the tavern grew loud, flooding out into the night.

The Hanoverian General's frown immediately softens as Helga places a full bottle of Jagermeister on his table, compliments of Ensign Whitehead. He even begins to grin as he unstops the bottle and refills his empty shot glass with his favorite, hellish libation. Rising to his feet he breaks into a broad smile as he raises his glass high into the air.

"To Ensign Whitehead, Major Kraut, and all of the fine Hanoverian officers of the King's German Legion", he says as he tips his glass, consuming the contents in one gulp. "I hope they all quickly learn the look of fear, rout, and panic. There is nothing more satisfying in warfare than causing a Frenchman to soil his drawers at the mere thought that they may have to stand and face an officer of the mighty Anglo-Allied Army."

"Welcome to the best army in the whole dang world!" :P :P :P

Oh, Herr Jones, you finally came to your senses and have chosen to join the Grande Armee?

It must be so, as the superlatives are too few for the glory that is the mighty Grande Armee.

Quiver, quake and run, young ensign. Your only hope of salvation is to flee.

It also would help to start practicing now, as it is traditional for the new ensign to buy drinks for all assembeled officers, regardless of the colors they serve. Since you have chosen poorly, I shall have to ask my fine fellow French officers to drink heavily on your tab so that tonight's festivities and subsequent bankruptcy may serve as a lesson to you.

Welcome to the NWC, Jim!

Salute!

Hearing the rabble rousing coming from within the Tavern, the Tirailleur walks in to see what the fuss is all about.

Another walking musket he soon deduces from the boasting and revelry that is about.
Another addition to the forces of the ancien regimes he says to himself, as he takes his seat at a table in the corner.

To quote a favorite troubadour of mine from a recent indictment into another hall of honor:
blah blah, blah blah, blah blah blah blah, blah blah, blah blah, blah blah blah blah blah.

But then a few words being hurled about this most uncommon of rooms ring true and clear to his ears: This evening the drinks are on you, Mr Whitehead.

Huzzah! the Tirailleur gives shout to the fray. Wine Helga, wine my lovely lass, make it a cask!

Welcome Jim to the NWC!

Regards,

Salut!
For this young officer I have a gift for good beggining of career in Allied hordes. I offer you an easy battle (you can choose whatever scenario from all titles except Bautzen, 1814 (I do not have it) and NRC (I do not play it). I'll choose options for such. We maybe should start from a drink in Tavern, but I'm affraid that drinking before battle with Pole on French service is not a good idea, if you want to be able at least to command your forces. About victory you do not even dream, so it's better for you to stay sober if you accept this challenge. Of course I'm not going to loose posibility to drink, Poles have a good experience of the battles against the English rolled under the influence of alcohol:

According to reports of Lord Blayney, after being captured as PoW, he was feasted, when applied to the castle, by the Poles with vodka. After filling the glass halfway, he asked to live up to the rest of the water. He heard from them there is no water in the castle, just that.

Welcome Ensign Whitehead! Those KGL lads are good troops, they should do you well even if they aren't Scotsmen. Get a few battles under your belt and I'll let you in the secret to the proper use of the salad fork when confronted by our foe.
