A while back after playing Leipzig operational I reached the conclusion the scenario favours the French player.
So I had a go at rebalancing it. I removed all of the exit hexes and added some new victory hexes. Never really got further with it but take a look if you interested and see what you think. There are plenty of members out there who are better at this editing stuff than me so perhaps we could collectively refine it.

Personally to me its a shame this massive battle is really unwinnable as allieds (my opinion) due to the victory conditions.
I guess some may disagree but thats my impression. I did enjoy employing the vast French guard force when I played it though

PS A further note the big change i made was to the victory conditions so you dont need 20000+ anymore as allieds.

This scenario is designed not for a manuever and withdrawal to exit hexes more for a stand up massacre orientated to a massive fight as such
Just my perspective on it.

I thought that on these beautiful islands live cheerful residents who violence and brutal force only consider playing rugby. Now I see ... "Leipziger Chainsaw Massacre" by Colin Knox.

There are some precedents in NZ such as those hordes of Goblins and Orcs

Yes, thanks Colin. That fits in well with my views of the scenario design too.

Indeed I recently went up to Rivendell which is not far from my house. No sign of any Nazgul or indeed Arwen though.
I relieved about the former and disappointed about the latter.. Although I did observe this particular Elf at the cricket a while back. Frodo has also been observed enjoying Coffee here in the 'shire' (Wellington)

Salute!

I still have fond memories from childhood, of sitting with my two brothers on a rocky ledge in a cliffside, on a small hill overlooking the seaside village where we grew up.

A top this hill was a lookout tower, built of stone, that always reminded us of the watch towers at the Gray Havens, looking out to sea towards Valinor.

When tourists would be passing by as they hiked up the hill they would spy us above the trail, and asking what we were doing, we'd reply, "We're hobbits!"

On more serious note: I have yet to play the actual battle scenario, but I can imagine that Bautzen in the new Bautzen game would surely fit the bill for an all out chainsaw massacre kind of game play.

Oh yes, good thing about no Nazgul in your neighborhood... :)
But too bad 'bout Arwen...

I know what you mean Todd. Where I go tramping (hiking in american) at Tongariro national park we always used to say 'gee Mt Ngauruhoe would make a perfect mount doom and this place is like Mordor they should film the movie here'

And low and behold Peter Jackson noted the same thing 15 years later and the rest is history.

Andy download it and let me know what you think. I think removing the exit hexes but adding some big objectives to the west and lowering the vp's makes it a much more interesting scenario. A fun option really as given the huge forces involved its a shame about charging off towards exit hexes. If you are allieds you must ultimately due to huge vp's required to win. In this variation you can win through fighting.
Anyhow just my go at it.

Colin,

in our shortlived Leipzig battle the most disapponting thing for me as an Allied commander was not the VPs selection. It was the troops deployment. In all the rest of the operational level scenarios the sides had at least some time before the collision of main troops. So what I would dream of is a scenario starting on October 14th or even 13th. Unfortunately it's only a dream. With current RL situation I can't play through one day at Katzbach, leave alone the whole operation around Leipzig.

With kind regards from Mordor,
