The King’s Dragoon Guardsman entered the tavern, pausing in the doorway to take a good look around. The horse hairs of his helmet softly swished from side to side as he shook his head at the sight before him. Gott im Himmel! So many Frenchmen still. One would have thought we would have reduced their numbers so much more by now. These blue coated bandits breed like fleas.

Walking across the common room, he touches his visor in a brief salute as he passes the table where the Imperial Guard Commanders are seated.

Approaching his usual table, he is only mildly surprised to see only one of the two Hanoverian officers whose presence had been specifically requested today. Resplendent in his immaculate, red coat, Ensign Friedman lurched to his feet at the approach of his commanding officer, standing at attention, and smartly snapping a letter perfect salute. The King’s Guardsman barely contained his grin at such a text book response by his youngest officer, but could not help but feel a sense of pride at the shiny, new medal pinned on the young man’s chest.

“At ease Ensign”, replied the Major General as he returned the proffered salute. “No need to be so formal in this tavern. After all”, he said as he glanced back towards the tables occupied by the officers of France, “we are all just friends here”.

“Yes, sir”, said the young Ensign, “I will try to remember that, sir”.

“Congratulations, Ensign,” said the Hanoverian Commander as he removed his glove and extended his hand. “That is a very handsome medal you wear today. I trust it will be the first of many.”

Removing his helmet and placing it on the table before him, the Major General turned to the assembled crowd and called for their attention. “Gentlemen officers of these wretched wars, it is my fervent hope that you will join me this evening in a toast to two of the King’s finest officers, only one of which seems to be present at the moment”. He grinned in the young Ensign’s direction. “To Ensign Mike Friedman of the Hanoverian Brigade, who now wears his first medal indicating his astounding victory in his very first battle, and to the newly promoted Colonel Peccolo, also of the Hanoverian Brigade, who seems to be late to his own party”.

“Cheers, gentlemen, for your jobs so very well done!”

Salute!

What a quandary!?!? :?

Drinking on the Coalition farthing! :D

And subjection to the sing-song of the Shriek

Hmm, there is nothing for it but to drink so much that one is numb to the latter!

But seriously (as serious as one can be in these confines) - congratulations Ensign on your first triumph upon the battle maps!

And to you Colonel - 8)

<<Drinking on the Coalition farthing!

And subjection to the sing-song of the Shriek

Hmm, there is nothing for it but to drink so much that one is numb to the latter!>>

From the window came a loud voice...

"Vhy Herr Schmidgall, you vill not haf to drink on unsere Geld, I haf brought a wagon, special for der occasion!" ..... Ah yes Kinder, Der Wurger ist im the Haus! :D

As our hero comes thru the door, he does not stride in, but instead enters backwards, dragging a large box. :? "My apologies, Herr General, but I ch habe a special gift to bring to the Tavern, Helga, Helga mein Schotzee, mehr Bier heir, :D bitte, und der ist wein in das Wagon outside, could you haf it brought in, Bitte? ":P

The Frenchmen, all gathered about, craned their necks to see what Der Wurger was dragging into the Tavern. Their were markings upon the box and, as it was dragged past the table of the leaders of the beautiful daughters of France, (The Imperial Guard  :P  ), they all, almost to a man, slammed their glasses to the table, prompting an immediate fast draw of mirrors to insure no drops of liquid marred their applications of rouge.

"Herr General, I haf this strange box gefunded, aber, I cannot read the Frenchy words, do you know was it means? " All said as the box was dropped onto the floor. "Ich know was this means", where the stenciled words "Grenadiers a Pied" were written, "Das ist who Ich habe taken it from at Lutzen   , but was ist das?" as he pointed to the stenciled words "Ours en Peluche" :o  :x

All the officers to a moment to puzzle over the words as the table of Frenchmen of the Guard appeared slightly distressed.

Finally, Der Wurger said, "Ve can finish diese mystery spater, jetzts ist celebration Zeit! Zum Voll!" he called as they then tipped their glasses. Pounding the newest member at the table on the shoulder and looking at the new medal, Der Wurger commented, "Vell Done, Vell Done!"

"Und jetzt, fur meine grosse Freund die Ratte, wir wollen ein Lied singen!" :D

Auf Schlesiens Bergen, da wächst ein Wein,
Der braucht nicht Hitze, nicht Sonnenschein.
Ob's Jahr ist schlecht, ob's Jahr ist gut,
Da trinkt man fröhlich der Trauben Blut. :D

He, Freund, gewinn ich, so bist du mein;
Ich geh, so ruft er, die Wette ein!

Da wurde manch Krüglein leer gemacht;
Wir tranken beinah die halbe Nacht.
Da lallte der Teufel: He, Kamerad,
Beim Fegefeuer, jetzt hab ich's satt!

Ich trank vor hundert Jahren in Prag
Mit den Studenten dort Nacht und Tag,
Doch mehr zu trinken solch sauren Wein,
Müßt ich ein geborner Schlesier sein! :D :D :D

"Helga, Helga, mehr French Whine, Bitte!"   :x :D
