That is correct, Cliff. Bill was always adamant on that point. I always disagreed, but get more use out of my mounted Dragoons anyway. I would only dismount them under very exceptional circumstances myself. It never has happened in any of my games to date. |

Well that's just crazy ride up on a flank and open fire what better way to disorder a unit why are they dismounted then ? |

If you are going to ride up on a flank, why not just charge? The only time I would consider using them dismounted is if I was playing a game with some sort of house rules about cavalry in chateau's or villages, and a situation called for them to enter the hex. Also, if I am not mistaken, they only dismount into line formation, so any kind of movement is going to be much slower than with them mounted. |

Salute! I've always found the issue of dismounted Dragons to be very confusing in these games. I know of at least one scenario (Austerlitz game) where Dragons can dismount and use musket fire. I see in updates for the various games that it will say included is use of dismounted Dragons, yet I can never discover them. In my opinion it should be standardized throughout the games. If they can dismount they should be able to fire. If I recall correctly the range was 1 hex in the Austerlitz scenario I've played. Regards, |

Interesting. I actually did not know that Bill allowed Drgoons to fire in any scenario.

Well Looking at Leipzig I only see dragoons armed with swords, not much sense to dismount them when there is no firepower they can use to harass the enemy. |

In Jena 1806 you have several btns of dismounted dragoons at the beginning. They were used as infantry in this campaign due to a shortage of horses. Armed with a Carbine they fire at 1 hex range only but I think this is realistic. There are a number of personal accounts of cavalry units both mounted and dismounted using their carbines for skirmishing and in 1806 for line fire. So its a shame they cannot fire like in Jena.
