Of all the HPS games, i dislike NRC the most. It just "feels" wrong in comparison to NIR. I understand the advantages of hps titles but i prefer NIR over NRC. The other talonsoft/Matrix titles and the HPS versions are ok. |

I actually never got that feeling about NRC. It seems OK to me, although it does need to be brought up to current standards by revision. I actually like NRC, or at least what few sceanrios I have played in the title. Can you expound on the areas of your 'bad' feelings about this title, John? Of course, this is just a 'philisophical' discussion as there is really not too much we are going to be able to do to change things. |

Wasn't there supposed to be a patch at some point? Maybe it's just that it needs updating like the other titles. |

There was a patch under imminent release, but I thought someone said it had been retracted. It was in a post here somewhere.... |

It is kind of hard for me to compare them. I get mauled in both NRC and NIR. Yes, there was a test patch out there a few months ago. It appeared to have some bugs but have not heard anything since. And the test patch is gone. viewtopic.php?f=5&t=13404 |

Salute! John C's description of NRC feeling wrong actually mirrors my own initial sentiments of that game. I can't really put my finger on it - except that before finally discovering HPS games I probably played the Talonsoft NIR game more than either Waterloo or PTW - I just really enjoyed the variations on Borodino in that game. I haven't actually played Borodino in NRC because whenever I open the different scenario files for that battle I simply get that feeling John describes. It is probably nothing more than a familiarity with the original version (on that note, I've not played the Battle of Waterloo scenarios in HPS, although I absolutely love all of the others ones - the alternative great battles at Nivelles, Tongrinne, the incredible large campaign battle maps, etc). I have played a couple of other scenarios in NRC and I enjoy them - for me it just comes down to Borodino itself. As for not much we can do about all of this (to paraphrase Mark J), I'm finding that is not so much the case really any more. There are plenty of gamers here in this club that are creating mods for these games - not just wonderful maps and unit icons, but also changing the various parameter files, etc, that affect movement rates, morale and quality rates, everything really. This seems to me to indicate that there is a lot we can do with these games to improve the quality of experience. Regards, |

There was a test patch posted and several of us found errors with the scenarios and reported it. Probably just depends on how much time people can find to work on it before it makes an appearance again. |

I should have said that there was nothing much we could 'officially' do about it. The problem with modding everything is that the mods are not universally applied. You have to be very careful to ensure that everyone in on the same page, and running the same systems. |

The one thing i noticed immediately is that, i play exclusively in 2d mode, the 2d normal view does not show enough of the immediate area i am interested in. If i zoom out, it is 2 far out. I loved the art work for terrain in NIR. Made it all realistic. The art work in NRC looks dull... I know, i know..... I am comparing apples to oranges and the hps guys did not have an art budget to match the talonsoft games... But... Oh well Just feels wrong ![]() |

I am not so put off by NRC in comparison to NiR, but rather as Andy says, it needs the pdt update badly, imho. I would prefer 10 minute turns but even the Wagram 15 minute would be ok... |
